A couple of months ago my 7 year old decided to go vegan, which finally gave me the push to do something that i have been thinking about for some time now and join him. I stocked up on children's vitamins before realising that not all were vegan, we decided to use these ones up before finding an alternative. Now that we are running low I would like to ask for your recommendations? So far I like the look and price of the vegan society vitamin tablets, but is there a reasonably priced liquid version anywhere? I would prefer something suitable for all of the family just for conveniences sake so that's another point for the vegan society's vitamins...

Also does anyone use any other types of supplements? I waver between thinking it's all a big con and being a slave to spirulina Confused (excellent band name Grin)

Placemarking. I've been quite tired since going vegan and suspect that my iron may be low. I have had issues with low blood iron before and would like to know a good iron supplement.

When I have had problems with low iron before I used spatone, it's a liquid version so it's better absorbed. It tastes pretty odd though so I mix it with orange juice because the vitamin c also aids iron absorption.

She really needs B12, she will get very sick without it. Jarrows Methyl B12 dissolves under the tongue & is a really good one

Be a bit careful with spirulina too, it's great in a lot of ways, but can block the absorption of B12, which in turn messes up iron absorption, so its not the best for low iron.

It's best to get everything from food where possible, bar marmite there is no vegan source of B12, but everything else is available in your food

Ah thankyou I didn't know that about spirulina, I will have to look a bit more into b12 to make sure I am not making any more mistakes. I have ordered the VEG1 vitamin tablets from the vegan society for now.

Thankyou I am having a look at that now. If I wanted a blood test to check all of my vitamin levels how could I go about getting that? I don't think I am deficient in anything so probably couldn't ask my gp, I am just interested really because we have all been eating so much better since switching over to fully vegan.

Yes, it's just a matter of requesting a test from the GP, although some labs will refuse to test vitamin D because the assumption is we are all deficient anyway.
