North Norfolk or Pembrokeshire from Scotland with a baby?

Looking to book a UK holiday next May/June for myself, DH and baby who will be 10/11 months when we travel.

We live near Glasgow and have done north England (Northumberland, Yorkshire and Lakes) during COVID so are looking now further south.

Both North Norfolk and Pembrokeshire look lovely but I'm just concerned whether the drive will be too much with a baby.

Anyone who knows these areas, which would you recommend and would you advise a stop over en route somewhere?

Oops, seem to have posted twice! Commenting on this one to bump and have reported the other one

Which do you like the look of more? Your baby won’t care.

I’m biased as I’m from there, but Pembrokeshire is prettier. Although North Norfolk is also nice and would probably be a shorter drive.

Why not call at a place on the journey?
Liverpool?
Blackpool?
The Lakes?
North Wales?
Its a great Road Trip form Liverpool Through North and Mid wales

The scenery in Norfolk isn’t as good as Pembrokeshire. There are lovely beaches, walks, boat trips, days out, towns, etc to do in both. Pembrokeshire is in the west, so wetter, than Norfolk on the east coast.

Avoid the last week in May/first week in June as it’s half term.

Never been to Pembrokeshire, though it sounds lovely, but have been to North Norfolk. We stay near Glasgow and have done the drive with young kids (not babies though, and a dog).A long day travelling but worth it for the lack of rain, lots of sunshine, great beaches and quaint villages. We stop off at Clumber Park (National Trust Place, just off motorway, good to stretch the legs)

Plantmoretrees86 · 11/11/2022 21:33

@Fivemoreminutes1 ooh good shout about half term! We don't get that in Scotland as we break up for summer end of June, so it never would have occurred to me. Thanks!

@Wheest1 we used to go to Clumber park as kids. That would definitely make a nice stop.

Thanks for all the tips. Honestly like the look of them both though I'm possibly swayed by Norfolk being drier... Get enough rain the rest of the year! Lots to think about.

Norfolk prob more different from Scotland! Both are lovely, and w baby in sling both will be easy. We stayed in a gorgeous B and B near Binsey? Binham? when DS was tiny. Don’t envy you either drive tho…

I live in Norfolk and whilst it’s lovely - nice beaches, countryside etc - I’m not sure it’s worth such a long drive for!

Surelyitscoffeetime · 19/01/2023 14:54

I grew up in Pembrokeshire and spent lots of family holidays in Norfolk. I would choose Norfolk. It’s not worth the extra distance to Pembrokeshire.

Thank you for your replies. We have in fact just booked Northumberland for the third year in a row! As much as we were tempted by somewhere new, we just couldn't face the drive in the end. Maybe in a few years, as both places do sound so lovely!

Great something to look forward to, try to dig out the unusual like the Poison garden etc

Good call. Whereabouts are you going?

Lochroy · 20/01/2023 22:54

Sounds like you are after coastal areas. Have you ever been to the Nairnshire / Morayshire coast?

Plantmoretrees86 · 24/01/2023 07:01

@RampantIvy booked a cottage just outside Bamburgh

@Lochroy yes many times, used to live near Aberdeen... Agree there are some nice beaches there but unfortunately wouldn't feel enough of a holiday for me!

That sounds lovely. DH is from Northumberland and I know it well. Have a lovely break.

Plantmoretrees86 · 24/01/2023 07:41

@RampantIvy thank you. Really looking forward to it!

@RampantIvy wow what a list! Really helpful, thank you. Some places we've been to (loved Cragside, Alnwick gardens, Dunstanburgh and Vindolanda previously, among others) but lots that we haven't done. Also haven't tried any of those restaurants so will look them up! Thinking the heatherslaw railway and the country zoo might be nice for the 1 year old and we'll definitely go to Bamburgh castle since we'll be staying so close
