Nice place to stay in the centre of Gloucester?

We're off to dinner with DH's boss in August and I think we'll both need a couple of drinks to get through the night

My lovely mum has agreed to have our children so we thought we'd book ourselves somewhere nice for the night. Any recommendations?

www.booking.com/hotel/gb/thenew-inn.en.html?aid=311076;label=hotel-200513-gb-n_D8cQK6u1XOSBZs Dv4h0gS3883278390;ws=&gclid=CMW93fLNuaICFQuElAodeSzF4Q

has just been taken over and the new owners are meant to be great- it is right in the centre.
If not there are one or two new hotels at less than a mile down the road at Gloucester Quays by the docks. Don't know the names but one is either a travel lodge or premier inn. Should come up if you google Gloucester Quays.

Where's the meal going to be?

EvilTwins · 24/06/2010 22:06

Is the dinner actually in Gloucester? I'd go with somewhere just outside Gloucester, or even Cheltenham if you want to treat yourselves - much nicer

Restrainedrabbit · 24/06/2010 22:07

www.thewharfhouse.co.uk/ This is new and just outisde Gloucester, Gloucester itself is a bit 'meh'

McSteamy · 24/06/2010 22:08

DH says he lives very near the centre of Gloucester.

Or you could get a taxi to The Hatherley Manor Hotel, Hatton Court or Bowden Hall.

emkana · 24/06/2010 22:11

You're eating at the boss's house then? I would invest in a taxi and stay a bit further out, much nicer, there's nothing really great in the centre of Gloucester.

Restrainedrabbit · 24/06/2010 22:12

Ah ok, then the Wharf House would be ideal as it is a short taxi ride. Otherwise there are the usual Holiday Inns on the ring road if you prefer that sort of thing. Cheltenham is MUCH nicer and you'd be spoilt for somewhere nice there.

emkana · 24/06/2010 22:12

Or at The Greenway in Shurdington

emkana · 24/06/2010 22:13

v pricey though

EvilTwins · 24/06/2010 22:23

I'd definitely go with the taxi idea. Cheltenham is nice for a mooch around the next day too, if you don't have to rush back.
[[http://www.stayatthegeorge.co.uk/ The George], Queen's and Hotel Du Vin are all right in the town centre.

EvilTwins · 24/06/2010 22:24

Hmm. First link didn't work.

Try again...

George Hotel

McSteamy · 24/06/2010 22:25

We are fans of Hotel Du Vin might check that out! Thanks for all your recommendations!
