Things to do in / near Sheffield?

Booked hotel for August at the Sheffield Park Hotel.

Going with a friend, looking for things to do, but we're both fairly lazy so we're not up for sightseeing really unless it's totally interesting.

But any other things to do?

If you have primary school kids and a car, then go here:

Wildlife and butterfly centre

it's fab and they often have school holiday activities on.

Meadowhell !! (or correctly : Meadowhall) shops, shops and more shops. Reachable by Supertram.

The museums are good in Sheffield. Sheffield Arena has some good things on ?

Sking /Ice skating - both big places in Sheffield ?

Trying to think, typical person, comes from there but doesn't actually "go" there.

a walk in the peaks? with a nice pub lunch

erm

go the showroom cinema, have a drink, bibble round the galleries, peace gardens and shops (that really narrow ally and then up by forum / west street)

there's a gorge little spa off west street. Proper old baths. Real gem of a place

Erm that stately home with a collection of marilyn monroe stuff / dresses is near. I loved that. Will have a think where it was

Ooo yes spas are good, we do like to treat ourselves to a manicure!

I've heard of Meadowhall so might give that a look around.

Walk in the peaks...does that involve hills? We don't do hills

Coming to Sheffield - you had better get used to hills

juneybean · 06/06/2010 20:40

Oh no! LOL Surely can't be as hilly as Durham?!

BikeRunSki · 06/06/2010 20:44

Hillier than Durham - i have lived in both!

herjazz · 06/06/2010 20:44

tis very hilly

this is the spa

juneybean · 06/06/2010 20:57

Oh dear will have to take my walking shoes!

Spa looks very reasonable in price!

The spa is fabulous!

I imagine that if you are "into" shopping then Meadowhall will be a great mecca. If you are not, then it is just a load of chain stores enclosed in one space, headed by Next, Primark, Debenhams, M&S and House of Fraser. If you do go though, give the food court a miss and go to the independent Italian restaurant on the top/1st floor.

Hi

Been trying to get out in the unexpected sunshine recently to my newly adopted home of Sheffield.

Had a great day a Shire Brook Reserve (Stone Lane, Woodhouse) recently, walking through the replanted woodlands and going to the Visitors Centre recently. Really nice day for the kids and dog.

Other there other similar reserves and parks around the city?

Thanks

I'm a bit baffled as to why you would want to visit another city if you don't like sightseeing. If all you want is some shopping and a spa why bother traveling somewhere else?

Anyway, The winter gardens and peace garden are nice, and Leopold Square is good for evening drinking and dining. I particularly like the tapas at Cubana.
