with a 3 year old ds in the back. Can anyone suggest good places to stop where he can get out and let off some steam? Also any suggestions on entertainment? So far my only idea is those book cds where they can look at the pictures while the cd tells the story or just straight music/story cds.

www.lydiardpark.org.uk/lydiard/lyd-houseandgrounds-2/lyd-childrensplayarea-2.htm perfect place to stop. Not far off motorway and lovely play area and space to run.

Thanks - where exactly is it on the route? Grouchy dh is saying it's only 1 1/2 hours away.

Out of curiosity (I may be doing a similar trip this summer), how long does the drive take roughly from London to St Ives?

I think we'll be leaving from one of the airports, which one should we aim for (Heathrow/Gatwick/Luton/Stansted...).

No DCs but I will be 30 weeks pregnant, so some stops might be necessary...

Thanks!

Heathrow is nearest to St Ives but you can also fly to Newquay (from Luton I think) which would mean the drive's only about an hour

Heathrow - already on your way west.

Four-&-a-half hours absolute minimum & probably not possible w/out illegal speeds.

Saturday in August and not either dawn or middle of the night - 12 hours plus (ie, Don't Do It).

Tigger - the best (not that we've done it, but from others' experience) is portable DVD, the kind you strap to headrest in front. Otherwise, like on a plane, plan to have something distracting to hand over (bit of food, little book, figurine) every half hour.
