Anyone know where to stay self-catering on Jersey for a reasonable price?!

Hi I was thinking of a holiday in Jersey, but seems really expensive! (The theory being we could go by ferry, thus avoiding the volcano disruption/save on car hire etc). Has anyone stayed anywhere that has been reasonably priced and nice/ toddler friendly? We would like to be self-catering. Many thanks!

Two years ago we stayed in a hotal on half board with a 2 year old, 7 year old and teenager. We drove and took the ferry across. The hotel cost us £2,000, as at the time B&B was upgraded to Half Board free of charge.
Know you want advice on accommodation, but I would just like to point out that we went for two weeks and the island is simply too small to keep a family occupied for two weeks and we visited many attractions two or three times. It is a lovely island and we did add in a trip to France.

Jersey can be a bit pricey for accommodation.

The most cost effective is probably what my parents have done - which is go camping. The type where the tents are pre-setup for you and have some mod cons.

I did notice the Uplands Hotel has self-catering apartments, but I've not had experience of it (I've only been in a regular room and that was a few years back).

There is a little bit to do on the Island, but I think it is more suited to older children then a toddler and some of it might even be older. I can see taking a toddler around the islands castles to be a tiring exercise.

Of course if all you want to do is sit on a beach, then there are plenty of those.

We have booked a lovely cottage for last year & this year with Freedom Holidays. They have some great accommodation but it does book up quickly.

Our toddler really enjoyed the castles & the maritime museum. This year he's 4, & we'll be going to the Aquasplash plus I expect the castles etc again. The surprise disappointment was Durrell - because its not a traditional zoo, ie large enclosures, very few cages, you had to hang around to catch sight of the animals which just didn't work with an impatient 3 year old!

Restaurants etc all seemed very child friendly & generally Jersey has a very 'safe' feel to it.
