Looking for family-friendly accommodation. Don't do camping, but do like classy...!

Surely a contradiction in terms Essie bach! Sorry not very helpful. Have you seen this on the eisteddfod website? Pob lwc!

I wouldn't choose to stay in Ebbw Vale, if you are driving and don't mind a 20-30 minute drive - I would opt to stay in places on the West side of Abergavenny.

I have looked on the map for a nice town nearby, and I wouldn't choose to take my family anywhere near to Ebbw.

I am going to upset a lot of the Blaenau Gwent people here. If you are making it into a holiday as well, choose the outskirts of Abergavenny, if you want to be in Ebbw Vale itself and don't want to drive, then I can't recommend any nice parts of Ebbw.

Have you ever been or driven through Ebbw before ???

I've got a nearby travelodge... Have you checked their website?

I've just been tempted to post something really sarcastic in response to Pop's snobbishness but decided to rise above.

It's a post industrial working class area but it has a beauty of its own if your head isn't too far up your backside to see it.

Here's a link accomodation

History Cordell Country

Abergavenny is lovely but there are other areas too.
If you get time come and see us in Cwmcarn,
Forest drive

If you want luxury here about 45 mins drive away.

guess it depends on how far you want to travel, but "these areclassy",

Thanks folks! I'm coming from Anglesey so some Ebbw Vale folk probably reckon I might be up my own backside due to the countryside around here... I don't know the area very well but I love the valleys. Being post-industrial it feels like a different country and I like the sense of history. (Earthymama you'll be pleased to hear!) Plus, the Eisteddfod is going to Ebbw Vale because it is a working class post industrial area. Touristy beauty spots don't need that kind of boost.
Thanks for fab suggestions - did a big check of availability on Sunday and it wasn't good. However, we have managed to get a hideously expensive lovely hotel outside Merthyr. In the countryside. Better hotel than anything we have up north, Earthymama, you beat us on that!

We'll be around for 3 nights so not really a holiday, although I do want to see some sights.

Even so, Ebbw Vale isnt attrative and hasnt any nice restarants/pubs/culture or anything particulary pleasant really - I spent nearly 9 years with a guy from there so I know. I would stay over the mountain - Crickhowell. Beautiful drives over the mountain.

"It's a post industrial working class area but it has a beauty of its own" ummm I totally question that point of view. Redrow have been putting their stamp on it recently - if red brick tickles your fancy. There is a lot of re-generation which is fantastic but there is nothing else. Some absolutely wonderful people - in a very deprived, workless, bland and bleak mountain town. I never thought it had a sence of history. Its sort of mix of 60's and 80's mess of architecture.

Sorry Earthymama, I'm just over the mountain from you but personally I cant paint a false/romantic picture of this town. My background is the valleys too.
