Don't know your budget or what exactly you are looking for, but a little girl in my class at school goes here every year.

keresley · 19/04/2010 14:29

Cheverton Copse Caravan Park - we love it (ch aged 2 and 5)

babylove2 · 19/04/2010 14:37

Appologies.. WIGHT.

Thank you both added them to my faviroute lists and will get hubby to have a look

On the budget front, we not sure really we dont know what a good price would be for there as we havent been before but we are hoping for 2-3 nights and no more than £400??does that sound to little?

I have heard good things about Gurnard Pines, from others who have stayed there, but have not stayed there myself.

Someone who lives there said that its 'in the middle of nowhere' too but that may be a good thing...?

babylove2 · 19/04/2010 17:04

We want somewhere that has things for the kids to do, me and hubby love the place fimbo said, just waiting for a email on dates etc.

we are also looking at cornwall too.

We have been twice and stayed at park resorts, great for the kids (swimming pool, park ,kids clubs etc..), Dh found it a bit noisy though (he likes the quite life) so we are going to a small caravan park in cornwall this year.

nowwhatdoido · 19/04/2010 17:11

I wouldn't say Gurnard Pines is the middle of nowhere, it's a couple of minutes drive from Cowes. Gurnard Pines is quite nice, but I'm sure there are nicer places. Sorry, as a resident, I know nothing of holiday places here. We use the Pines swimming pool. It's a holiday site with chalets and lodges, but to be honest, for a holiday, I wouldn't choose Cowes - the beach isn't that great compared to many others on the island.

Do you want rural countryside, or a seaside towny type holiday? I could point you in the direction of whereabouts on the island to aim for, rather than specific sites.

BertieBotts · 19/04/2010 17:12

How many children have you got? Where do you want to stay, a house, hotel, caravan? Near the beach, near a town?

Home From Home Holidays were great when we went. They have loads of properties so hopefully one will be in budget.

nowwhatdoido · 19/04/2010 17:14

Yes, the Parks resorts are supposed to be good. Thorness Bay really IS in the middle of nowhere, but has a pool, play areas, bar, kids club and beach. I think there's also one called Nodes Point which is probably a better location.

nowwhatdoido · 19/04/2010 17:18

Basically, East Wight is Seaside town type places, quite cheesy, old fashioned, amusement arcade, fish n chip type places.

West Wight is very very rural, but beautiful.

Bearing in mind that nowhere is more than a half an hour drive though.

I'd avoid Ryde, it's pretty run down, I'd avoid Sandown, it's where the MASSES go.

Cowes isn't really a holiday town, it's just full of millionaire yachties in the summer.

Newport is just an average town, with all your high street shops.

Hi,

We have 2 children 7 and 4.

We would nlove a little cottage, or a caravan really dont mind.

Some where that has on the resort or area loyts of things tp do or near by where we can drive chill out and relax, we usualy go abroad but find it so stressful with young kids we want a fun but chilled holiday if there is such a thing?

I'd recommend Robin Hill and Black Gang Chine, they're amusement parks, but much more chilled out than the big ones on the mainland. Your kids are the perfect age for them.

If you're looking for entertainment for the kids, I'd stay more East of the island, that's where most of the holiday stuff is. There's a little train that runs along Ryde seafront, and a lovely big play area there (I'd visit Ryde seafront, I just wouldn't stay there ).

There's a couple of small zoos in the Sandown area, dinosaur museum, loads to do really.

BertieBotts · 19/04/2010 17:44

This is the website we used before: www.hfromh.co.uk/

This is the house we stayed in, it was lovely and brilliant if you have toddlers/babies, your two are probably a bit old to need it but there was a highchair, cot, stairgate and toys provided.

They only do short breaks in that property off-peak though.

babylove2 · 19/04/2010 17:48

nowwhatdoido where would you say to stay that is near those places .. kids would love them. and hubby

My dd's liked Black Gang Chine but i found it hard work as dd2 was in a pushchair and there is a lot of walking up hills.

Last year we went to the needles twice as the dd's loved the little rides and arcade, also watching sweets being made.

We also went to Amazon world last year and it was a total waste of money, cost a fortune to get in and we had seen everything within half an hour, they did have a nice park there though.

We stayed at Thorness bay, it does have its own little beach (takes 10 minutes to walk to the beach).

nowwhatdoido · 19/04/2010 18:00

Brading, where the house that Bertiebotts has linked to is in between Ryde and Sandown, so a good location ( not directly seaside though ). Shanklin and Ventnor are nice seaside towns, on the East/East South side of the island. Seaview ( little town ) is nice. Bembridge.

nowwhatdoido · 19/04/2010 18:02

Freshwater and Yarmouth are nice little towns, but right over the other side of the island, where there is not much to do, unless you like it very rural.

babylove2 · 19/04/2010 18:21

I have heard alot about thorness bay, it looks lovely and a good price. is it far when you get of the boat?

OP posts:
Marne · 20/04/2010 10:31

It takes 15-20 minutes when you get off the boat, very easy to find (with the directions they give you).

mermaidspurse · 21/04/2010 10:19

I would say the south coast, very beautiful and the best beaches. But as nowwhatdoido says you are not far from anywhere. As a former cork-head I cringe slightly at Gurnard Pines and Thorness but I expect they have changed since 1970s!

Brading Wax works is a classic, Blackgang Chine just right for your kids and Robin Hill also fab.
Also well set up for some fairly safe cycling, worth a thought.
I have taken my family back there and did all the above and miss home a lot. Have a great time.
Is it true you have a M&S now nowhatdoido?
