Isles of Scilly - starting to despair....

I booked helicopter flights for DH as a birthday present, we will be going for three nights in September and taking our PFB who by then will be 14 months.

I cannot find anywhere to stay that isn't either a) ridiculously expensive or b) 1970's chintztastic or c) allows dogs but not children under 12

How can a hotel that charges £145 per night per person justify hiring you a highchair at £25 for the week?!

Please help!

here you go stuck in family room and this is what they came up with. Some look OK.

Do you want a hotel? What about self-catering? I find that with LOs, self-catering works better anyway... you can get kids in bed and relax with a bottle of wine or whatever, whereas in a hotel you're all in the same room and once LO is asleep you're stuck. Scilly is expensive, but if you self-cater you can do your own breakfasts and lunches and can still go out for nice meals in the evenings if you want to (it doesn't have to be home-from-home). Where do you want to be? St Mary's, or one of the off-islands?

Thanks FiveGoMadInDorset, I have already trawled that website with no joy - the ones that look nice are very expensive, the ones that look OK and are not expensive don't allow children as a rule!

We'd like to be in St Mary's I think but can be steered elsewhere with recommendations.

Totally, generally we prefer self catering (even before we became parents) but most self catering places don't allow short breaks until the end of September.

I'm open to anything with the exception of camping and would like to spend around £150 a night (for a room, not each!).

Ta for replying

Ok but there are alot of nice looking ones on ther that are a lot cheaper than that have good visitbritain ratings and take young children.

When you get really stuck, I can highly reccomend sleeping bags under the lighthouse on St Mary's.
Wonderful location

Oh - we stayed in a lovely self catering cottage up on the garrison with little kids and a dog - it was just down the lane from star castle hang on here

scrappydappydoo · 01/04/2010 23:13

argh - sorry didn't see your bit about a short break - maybe you could ring and ask??

CornishKK · 01/04/2010 23:21

Wombling - 20 years ago I'd have been there, I need a mattress these days

Scrappy - nice work, I'll email them and ask and even if not it could still work out cheaper booking the smallest cottage for a week and only being in it for three nights rather than staying in a hotel. I like your thinking.
