I am sure it has been done to death....but please tell me where you holiday in the UK and why you love it....or where you would love to go in the UK if you havent already been there.

There are so many places I havent visited and feel I should make more of an effort whilst my kids are young to visit some of the great places the UK has to offer! In recent years I have been to Northumberland twice (love it), Cornwall twice (also love it) and thats about it.....

So come on, please inspire me!

North Wales. It has stunning scenery, people are friendly and not overcrowded in the off season. Lovely long beaches and walks. Gorgeous!

I love Cornwall, in particular St. Ives. We make it a point to go to St. Ives at least once every 2-3 years.

Also loved Edinburgh, it's an amazing city with lots of character and plenty to do. Whenever we go to Scotland we also make a detour to Loch Lomond. I love it, it's soo beautiful. I'm probably a bit partial though as dh proposed to me there

West coast of Scotland. Assynt in particular is very very beautiful, also Argyll. Anywhere on the West coast though, really.

Lake District. I get withdrawal symptoms if I don't get up there at least once a year.

From time to time we discuss having a foreign holiday, but when it comes down to it it just seems like a waste of our leave not to go to the Lakes.

We loved it before DCs, but now, to see them pottering about by a lake, racing up a mountain, building a damn in a stream, the wonder at spotting dear from the bedroom window - all the things childhood should be, but unfortunately isn't for most

Another vote for the lakes...

also loved north Devon (apart from reversing up single tracks) - fantastic views and rockpools

Would quite like to go to Lyme Regis this year

MarthaFarquhar · 22/03/2010 20:35

the llyn
and the gower both have the most amazing coastlines

much lovelier than the west country, and with fewer braying toffs to spoil the ambience

lisbey · 22/03/2010 20:36

deer

South Hams in Devon.

I don't bray. But I know what you mean

But it is gorgeous there. Like everything a erfect English seaside holiday should be.

Scilly. Wonderful weather. Beautiful scenery. Safe and friendly atmosphere. Lovely beaches. Clear blue sea.

this year we are going to North Yorkshire (Rosedale) and Dorset. Can't wait.

Previously, Pembrokeshire - love it because it's so beautiful, feels so remote, the coast is so gorgeous and the towns so nice.

I'm a great one for weekends - 2 nights at the Covent Garden Travelodge (book a month ahead for bargains but don't book in bang on 3pm as the queues are eye-watering) was ridiculously good fun, revisiting old stamping grounds, checking out museums etc.

We have a hankering to do sea kayaking off the coast of Scotland - check this out but loads of other sites too. Ds a bit young still.

DH is going up Ben Nevis this year (another weekend).

Also stay at Butlins Bognor, head out of Butlins and go to Pagham beach, or West Beach and the West Beach cafe, plus don't forget a visit to the Bognor Regis Paperback Exchange (hope it has survived the internet )

Pembrokeshire for the sheer ruggedness of the scenery and coast.
Norfolk has won my heart though. As soon as we get north of Ipswich (and you could pick up Radio Broadland as it was) we just relax. It's so laid back and a slower pace of life
