Hi - have been looking at holiday parks such as Haven, Holburne,Parkdean & CentreParcs. Husband wants beach nearby preferably & I want pools & things for children to do in bad weather (this IS the UK after all!). HATE the thought of holiday parks, but they seem a cheaper option with plenty to do, BUT am worried that they will be SO busy that won't get near the pools if needed. Any help, advice very gratefully received. Thank you.

I could've written this myself! I've come on to ask the same advice so will wait to see if anyone responds!

I've stayed in 3 Havens, but not in any of the others. We used Haven a base, useful for pools/playground/beach but avoided the entertainments. Outside school holidays the pools should be fine (one of the Havens, Haggerston Castle didn't have its own beach, and a very small pool with set shifts for using the pool). The other two, Devon cliffs and Hafan Y Mor had better bigger pools.

Devon Cliffs is fantastic. going on my Second hol there this year. Lots to see in the surrounding area. Cant wait...plus a fab spa if you can get time away!

we went on our first haven holiday last summer and we're just about to book our second.

I too had never stayed in a caravan and had pretty low expectations but we opted for haven after seeing the prices at center parcs rocket to obscene levels over the last few years (we have to go in school hols)

We went to Seashore camp near Gt Yarmouth and dd aged 4 loved it and was kept amused very easily. My advice would be to go for a top end caravan if you want to spend any time in it as the cheaper ones are not particularly comfortable. We are booking a privately owned one this time and saving about £400 off the brochure price (obviously ahve to still pay for entertainments/pool passes but it is much cheaper)

The pool was fine when we went in august last year, not massively busy but they are much more basic than center parcs. There was also a beach right over the road from the camp which was nice.

The only thing I would say is beware of all the money spinners at the park, bike/kart hire, "courtesy" bus into nearest town, amusements, laser swords flashing sunglasses, bingo, prize draws etc etc etc sold EVERY night at the children's show etc etc.

The entertainments were good for dd, not brilliant for adults, although there was a circus one night and a michael jackson impersonator who was quite good. DD liked the kids clubs too, they did cooking, crafts etc all completely free.

hi all - have stayed in 3 different HOBURNE
parks on south coast near NEW FOREST - all are great for families - one has lodges - the other 2 caravans but some of them are really comfy with all mod-cons - plenty of outside space for kids to play - HOBURNE are a family run group & it shows - not too commercial (definately not butlins)- staff all very nice & helpful - sites never seem to be packed - entertainment was ok - mini-disco & then cabaret some-nights - plenty to do in the local areas - more like a traditional family holiday we all had when we were kids
