Lunch/Dinner in Edinburgh

We- me DH, DS are off to Edinburgh to stay with friends in April, we owe them a lunch and a dinner and we need a chic but still family friendly place to eat out. DS would need a high chair. As a family we go to place like ASK, Pizza Express, Wagamamas, but would like something a bit more special, and not a chain! We have a car, so all locations considered. Something with a view, nice walk afterwards?

vittoria is nice and ideal for families. it has a couple of restaurants within the city but is not a chain. i think they are family run. it is a little like pizza express but more family friendly. the food is great and at a reasonable price too.

you can google it for reviews and info.

Zanzero in Stockbridge is supposed to be nice and you could walk along the Water of Leith afterwards.

with children i'd DEFINATELY go for bar roma in the west end. especially for lunch - they're great with kids.

Spoon, a cafe just off the royal mile (near the bridges), is a great place to go for lunch. It's small but very family friendly. Get the soup. It's always great.

I can't believe Bar Roma is still there. I was going there 30 years ago.

Centotre on George Street - Italian / pizza, very central, great food, nice old bank building but no view/walks.

Guilianos in Leith - kids get to help make their own pizza

For a view, try South Queensferry for views of the Forth Bridges and a walk along the front. Either Orocco Pier - chic, but not sure how family friendly, although I think they do have high chairs or the Railbridge - more family orientated, don't be put off by the pics on their website - they seem to have picked a very gloomy day.
