Where do you live?

We went to Haven`Rockley Park which we thought was nice as Havens go. The site wasn't too big, had well maintained grounds and was clean.

Haven Perranporth was a dump.

We went here 3(4?) years ago

We used it as a base & went out & about

The caravan was fairly basic, not very clean (well it was better when DH had finished) but the grounds were well maintained & clean

We also went here about 4 years ago - its the only haven site we have truly enjoyed - dh is a keen fisherman and we paid extra for the gold or whatever it was back then and were positioned overhanging the lake so it was fab as dh could fish of an evening and i could sit on balcony whilst dd slept. We were blessed with a fantastic week of good weather also and it made a good base. There is a town and seafront nearby which was ok.

Only asking because would be silly to suggest somewhere too far but if you did fancy the one at Poole you would go M25, M3 and across rather than M4/M5.

At Hamworthy, the town where the park is, there is a park with a splash pool that is gated and then you are on a beach.

It isn't far to Studland beach, Poole etc.

Personally wuld say it is far nicer location with much more to see and do locally.

We went to Burnham-on-sea 4 or 5 years ago (the site you mention) and were very disappointed tbh. However, went at the beginning of September and the whole place (inc the caravan) looked like it needed a good scrub. I wonder if they were leaving it a bit neglected until the end of season, and it could well have been fine earlier in the summer?

Anyway, we had lukewarm food in the restaurant the shop sold no fresh food except for wrinkled old apples, and it was generally quite scruffy and (in some places) dirty.

On a positive note the weather was great and they opened the outdoor pool (which should have been shut at the end of August) One of the poolside tables had an upturned (full) ashtray underneath it which remained there all week.

ahhh see we went first week in July and we never ate there but there was a somerfield just round corner so we bought something to cook in each night. We did go to grimrose valley at end of season this year in sept and from that vowednever to step nto a haven ever again.

onepieceoflollipop · 31/01/2010 21:02

Maybe it's September that is the issue then with Haven, nappyzone!? (I have no intention of going in the near future to test out this theory though!)

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 31/01/2010 21:10

perhaps? though seton sands was grim in august and devon cliffs was grim in july. I think we were lucky in burnham as the caravan was brand spanking.

Katymac · 31/01/2010 21:11

We went 3rd week in August.........

saggyhairyarse · 31/01/2010 22:19

Devon Cliffs and Kiln Park are meant to be horrid as well.

pocoyo1 · 31/01/2010 22:31

Nappy, was there much to do off Park?

Onepiece, whats there anything to do off park and the beach?

well as the weather was lush we tended to visit the beach and chill on the verandah or visit further down the coast near doniford area and weston suiper mare - these places had ncoer beaches and also over to cheddar gorge etc... usual farm type days out - we had a 3 yr old dd at the time whos now 7. I remember the cooked chickens well from somerfield though

saggyhairyarse · 01/02/2010 10:55

Would recommend Sandymouth Bay

onepieceoflollipop · 01/02/2010 19:24

We went to the beach as well, and little walks. I think dd1 was about 3 at the time and it was only 4 nights so it's not very memorable tbh.

Also (can't believe I am putting this on mnet) there was a Wetherspoons in the town and the food was actually really nice and the place was clean.

onepieceoflollipop · 01/02/2010 19:25

Oh and the outdoor pool was quite nice too. Indoor pool disgusting not very clean unfortunately.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 02/02/2010 07:48

we didnt use indoor pool but yes outdoor one was nice and i remember well paddling with my 3 yr old.
