Is Mundesley a nice place to stay in? Any shops/restaurants there or is it just a tiny village? Is the beach nice?

It is a tiny village, windswept isolated, no phone signal, good for fossil hunting, nice places to visit around the area. Busy in summer, deserted in winter. I love it, but it is not for townies.

by windswept do you mean it's always windy?!

I want somewhere not towny but also want to have at least a village shop for essentials...

It is quite exposed on that coast - you need to wrap up warm. As far as I remember, dogs are banned from the beach in summer, but not winter. If you google it, there is quite a lot of info about mundesly.

we love it. have been 3 times. playground and big field for football, friendly beach cafe with a few books/toys for children, spa shop, fish and chips, chinese, crazy golf. couple of pubs you can take children into. i think there is a softplay very near too-up to about 8 yrs-elephant playbarn.

Overstrand (a little further along the coast) is much nicer. It has a couple of pubs, several shops and a really good caravan park (no clubhouse or anything, just a play area and nice outdoor swimming pool). You can walk to Cromer from there, which has a pier, cinema lots more shops, restaurants etc. I'd say Mundesley is a bit dull frankly (and lots of my family live there so will shoot me if they read this!).

what sort of accommodation were you after?

Mundesley is a fantastic place but don't tell everyone! it's like going back 30 years. The beaches are fantastic and the people are ultra friendly. There is an excellent chinese take away and the fish and chips shop in Bacton (3 ish miles away) is the best I've tasted. The town centre itself is a bit tired but you can get everything you need. There is a Sainsburys 5 miles away in North Walsham. Lots of things to do in surrounding areas. But like I say don't tell everyone....
