I don't care where it is in the UK, but I want to open my holiday cottage door straight onto the beach...

And it must have sand, and not be only pebbles. I know you won't WANT to recommend such places you have stayed because you're probably about to book again, but you must. It is a moral responsibility to tell others about them, not keep them to yourself, please.

It mustn't be a caravan park. And ideally it is all on its own, away from the crowds. I do not care a hoot about ice cream shops, or discos, or evening entertainment, or supermarkets nearby. In fact, such things would put me off. The more wild the neighbours, the better. If it has the word 'luxury' in its description, even better, but we can rough it too.

Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Cornwall, Suffolk, Northumberland, wherever: really, I don't care. But my children's happiness this summer is depending on YOU... No pressure or anything.

I'm not trying a hard sell, honest! I just love the place and like recommending it!

giddykipper · 05/01/2010 17:14

Well that went wrong!

fortyplus · 05/01/2010 17:15

OrmIrian I was going to suggest Crantock! Specifically West Pentire - just along the lane from the village itself. There are self catering houses and apartments that open straight onto the dunes with a view of the sea, then just walk through the dunes to Crantock beach. Or down the road a little further there are apartments overlooking the beach at Polly Joke/Porth Joke (2 names for same place).

seaside72 · 05/01/2010 17:17

or this one if you need somewhere bigger.

hmc · 05/01/2010 17:27

That does sound perfect Wilfsell. I shall be booking in straight after you me thinks.

AvadaKedavra · 05/01/2010 17:32

I can cat/email it to anyone who wants but didn't want to publicly out myself

Wilf, glad you liked it, it's a lovely part of Scotland and lots to see and do.

auntycorny · 05/01/2010 17:33

cat me avadra!

AvadaKedavra · 05/01/2010 17:34

done

WilfSell · 05/01/2010 17:37

Of course, ALL of these wonderful suggestions are booked, just when we need to go. Ho hum. I suppose it's a bit far fetched to expect not to book a year or two in advance.

I could do Ireland. I could even, actually, do Northern France. Or anywhere within a couple of days drive with a stopover.

But, my three boys insist, it must be ON the beach. My name is mud otherwise.

There are several houses to rent right on the beach at Porth Dinllaen on the Lleyn peninsula.
And it's lovely with a pub next door.

AvadaKedavra · 05/01/2010 17:39

Have you considered camping/campervanning then just stopping on whichever beach your dc you choose?

Lucycat · 05/01/2010 17:39

The holiday cottage to beat all others Llanbedrog beach, N Wales - just gorgeous.

Lucycat · 05/01/2010 17:41

ooh moondog when the weather is like this all thoughts drift to summer in N Wales.

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 05/01/2010 17:41

Aye Lucy
(I passed that the other day on the way to get my Christmas eve lobsters.)

Lucycat · 05/01/2010 17:50

moondog.....I have heard of the fabled lobster man from slubber.

AngryFromManchester · 05/01/2010 17:54

come to kent

I think broadtsairs for instance has a fair few on beach. We do too bhut we are pebble mania

moondog · 05/01/2010 17:56

Ah, have you indeed?

He was in fine from and his lobsters were delish (althoguh i did have to dispatch them myself).

moondog · 05/01/2010 17:56

I really fancy Broadstairs.
Is that the place where all the Goths hang out once a year?
Or is it more Dickens terroir?

moondog · 05/01/2010 17:57

Am thinking Whitby re goths.

I want ot go to that fab refurbished Art Deco holtel in Morecambe.

monkeysavingexpertdotcom · 05/01/2010 18:01

Didn't know this was you Wilf - not stalking you honest .
Don't have recommendations for a cottage as I've only camped on the beach there, but if you can get anything in Porthgain, Pembrokeshire, that's an ace place - and has a nice food pub (the Sloop) and a restaurant (The Shed) and lagoons and stuff.

WilfSell · 05/01/2010 18:04

moondog, the Midland. Monkeysavingexpert (a buddy of mine in RL) knows of 10 quid room offers from them occasionally. And she's welsh, so she'll prolly let you have the details.

MSE: coffee this week and you can give me ALL your best tips? And did you go to Tobermory one year? I've been stalking you too
