As some of you know we are planning on relocating to Taunton area in the next 2 years. Are heading to Taunton this Saturday and staying till Thursday. Have some appointments to see some houses. (Very exciting!)

We are staying at the Salisbury House Hotel in the middle of Taunton and I was wondering if any of you had some nice restaurant recommendations. We will have DS in tow as well. Anywhere particularly nice for pub food?

We arrive Saturday afternoon and our plan is to wander around town a bit depending on what time we get there and then find somewhere for an early dinner. Sunday we plan to drive around and look at location of some houses that we are not sure we want to look at - will depend on where they are. A nice pub lunch would be good on Sunday if any of you know of anywhere.

Hi all. Well we are back!

Had a nice time. Except for DS who is now bored of house hunting!

Went to Ciao Roma on the Saturday night MP. Thanks for the recommendation. Great food. Had a FAB dish - Pasta Primavera which was on the specials board. It was so good we went back on our last night and I had it again. It was delish! Really recommend it.

And we walked in on the Saturday night of Carnival to find a guy that DH used to work with in Bulgaria! He was there with his wife and family for a meal before watching carnival so we ended up joining them for carnival and then going to theirs for tea and cake and a natter on the Sunday. They are local and had lots of advice about houses and areas and knew one of the houses we had booked to see and knew someone who lives across the road from another one! Small world!

Had a hair cut at Toni and Guy in the end. Just because it was easy and they could fit me in at the same time DH was having his eyes tested at Vision Express.

On the Sunday we went to Prezz as it was all we could find open! DS loved his pizza there so we ended up back there on the Tuesday night. Monday we went to a French bistro type place whose name escapes me!

The house hunting was good too! May even have found something. There are a couple of issue with it that we need to work out if we can live with but we both really like it and it has great potential as they say. Could be a real dream home. Exciting and scary. And it is IN Taunton within walking distance of the school DS will go to.

Just spotted this and I'm curious now! Which house ws it in NC and was it nice? Sounds like you might be set on the one in town though, I can't remember from your previous thread, was it south street?

BudaBones · 27/10/2009 09:33

Hi Moosy

The NC one is right slap bang in the middle of the village pretty much - called Town Farmhouse. It was a bit weird for DH as his Dad owned the Post Office in NC at one point and it is practically next door! I loved the newer part of the house but I don't like beams and low ceilings so didn't like the kitchen area.

The one in town is on Hope Corner Lane? Do you know it?

Ha! That's the house my dad grew up in! Oooooh it's a small world!

I lived on Cheddon road for a while so I do know hope corner lane - very nice

BudaBones · 27/10/2009 10:08

Really??? Wow. Small world indeed. When would that have been? How old is your Dad?

OP posts:
Moosy · 27/10/2009 13:33

He's 58 and lived there until he left for university in 1969 (I think!), we've talked about this before, my parents didn't recognise your DH's family names, did he remember mine? I may have namechanged since then though so I'm not surprised if you don't remember!

BudaBones · 27/10/2009 13:41

Ah! Penny drops. I do remember us talking about this before.

Your Dad is about 10 years older than my DH. Yikes! So your Dad would have been a cool teenager type and my DH would have been a scabby kneed pest type!

They left NC when DH was 9 or 10 and moved to Galmington, then DH's mum died and they ended up moving to Trull before ending up in Minehead.

We are about to put in an offer for the house like! Scary stuff. The only other house we have bought was a new build in Surrey and much easier. Desperately trying to work out home much to offer and DH is in sodding meetings all afternoon!

Hurray buda!

I was thinking about you that weekend. There was some sunshine for your visit I think.

BudaBones · 27/10/2009 13:55

Hi Orm! Yep - we got some sunshine - thanks for organising that! We did also get some rain though.

Get used to the rain!

Just out of curiosity, what was the house you looked at in Nether Stowey. Was it the big farmhouse type or the one slap bang in the centre next to the stream?

BudaBones · 27/10/2009 18:14

The Nether Stowey house was the slap bang in the centre one. Do you know it well? Gorgeous house but waaay too much for us. Particularly the outbuildings.

OP posts:
BudaBones · 27/10/2009 18:53

ACtually - am not sure it had a stream? It is at the top of the hill right by a small development of houses which were apparently MoD built.

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 27/10/2009 19:51

Yes that's the one I thought ... I was wrong about the I think. Stowey is lovely but a bit cliquey or so I've heard.

OrmIrian · 27/10/2009 19:54

...about the stream!

BudaBones · 27/10/2009 19:58

LOL at 'wrong about the I think"!

As I said house was nice but too much. Needed a lot of money spent on it really.

DH is out tonight so can't talk to him about offer on the other one. Am on tenterhooks. Still not really decided what to offer. Will talk to him in the morning and make an offer then. Yikes!

Am flicking through house decor magazines already. Shouldn't get my hopes up really. Showed details to a couple of friends today and they all loved it.
