Any recommendations. Just one night, for me and DH, end of sept.

I want. Peace. And somewhere nice to eat. I thought I wanted luxury this and that, and actually, I think, just romantic and quiet will be fine.

Not expensive, none of this £300 a night malarky if you do not mind as we have dc2 on the way.

I want to soak in the bath while DH pours drinks, eat out somewhere that does not cost a fortune in case it does not stay down (either on location or elsewhere), I want to lie in bed in the morning without DH having to get up to make brekky, want to read the paper, soak in the bath.

Just wanting for DH and I to be able to celebrate our 2nd anniversary with the stress of the real world around us, and no children, no builders.

Pavlov ... more holidays!!!!

Depending on budget (and knowing where you live!!):

Bovey Castle
The Lugger
Percys

All personally recommended by me!!!

drayford Just for the night this time! Our friend has offered to look after DD for the night so it seems a shame not to take advantage of it .

Portloe - I been looking for that place for years!!! I went there once and stopped for a beer when I was going out with someone other than my DH, I did not drive so I was not really paying attention to the names of places when we went there and therefore could never find it again.

its a beautiful location.

Those are bit more than what we were wanting to pay tbh as we are mostly going to eat good food then sleep

But now I know where it is again I will definitely add it to my list, at least to go have lunch very soon

here is lovely but may be too close to home for you.
Beautiful rooms and the food is to die for.

OrmIrian · 11/09/2009 11:05

Let us know what you decide pavlov. So I can have a vicarious break too

OrmIrian · 11/09/2009 11:12

Good food

scroobiuspirate · 11/09/2009 12:32

oh Pavlov you must be near me then.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 11/09/2009 18:37

Some lovely places, but just too posh for us right now. I know, i know, that sounds daft, is there such thing as too posh, but I have not eaten well for months and would probably enjoy a bag of really salted chips as much as a gourmet meal (although DH would enjoy the gourmet meal). I think, after reading the suggestions it is helping us to narrow down what we want - simple, great/stunning location, rather than the room being magnificant and the food perfect. Not that I want a crusty room, I want it to be lovely and grand, but spa bath which I can't use not essential, for example.

I would love something like the location of Portloe or the one in bridgwater without the poshness

If you can find somewhere nice near Weymouth there is a great fish restaurant overlooking Chesil Beach called the Crab Shack.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 11/09/2009 18:52

oh i shall bear that in mind. We might do dorset as i do love it there. We went to Lyme Regis for our anniversary night last year, before then spending a week in a yurt! Was very nice but we had DD with us, so harder to enjoy the hotel experience - the yurt was probably one of the best holidays I have ever had, it was simple, rustic, involved limited travel and thus tiredness, just fab

Have a look here

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 11/09/2009 19:06

Oh now, see that looks lovely. Simple yet modern and fresh. And not too far in the car for my poor ol back!

or here, but maybe far too close, if you in hams iyswim.

looks lovely tho, and have heard food is great, and of course the place is really chilled out.

Hazelwood House

Shellseeker · 12/09/2009 11:31

Or try here

I can really recommend this place. The food we had here was IMO the best I have had out in the UK (apart from Gordon Ramseys at Claridges). And it's "just" a pub. So not too posh. But they do real attention to detail.
