Am I mad to consider an October holiday in North Wales?

Am I mad to consider an October holiday in North Wales? We would love to show the dc loads of castles and mountains, it sounds like a really great idea, but... is the weather awful in Wales in October? Will it be dreary and awful? We are generally very good at ignoring bad weather and just getting on with it, and the summer is far too expensive for us to go on holiday in this year.

Tell me if I am sane to consider it? If so, does anyone have any cottage suggestions or locations?

Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if repeating - I would say no madder than at any other time of year. Wales is fabulous - when you can see it through the rain which, in my experience happens all year round, so no reason to think October should be any worse. In fact I've never been in October - so maybe that's a dry month. Go for it - but pack your waterproofs.

funtime, thanks for confirming my theory about Blaenau. We had relatives around Porthamdog and my Dad was a volunteer on the railway so I spent a lot of my childhood around BF and in my memory it was always raining. Lots of sunny days at Borth y Gest, Black Rock, Criccieth, even Porthmadog itself, but I cannot remember one single beam of sunshine in Blaenau. (Was vaguely wondering whether that was because we went there on rainy days, but I'm sure sometimes we were on the railway on sunny days.)

Can I just add to the research...also did the Ffestiniog railway trip mid August from Porthmadog and it rained.

Last time we holidayed on the Lleyn in october we all came back with suntans, seriously, it could have been the med, clear blue skies and azure seas...of course as soon as you put your toes in the water you were instantly reminded that you were not in the south of france.

I would do it. Our experience is that the weather is generally better in may and october than it ever is in the 'real' summer months.
Oh and the lleyn has its own microclimate . It can be pissing down everywhere else and you'll be sat on the beach with a hat on reading grazia.
