So, we're skint but thought we could manage a week in a caravan. Chose a Haven site on the basis the children would love playing with other children around the site, ride their bikes etc and a bit of a swimming pool would be a bonus.

Booked Haven's Cala Gran but typically, only AFTER I'd paid for the damn thing, did I start to hear bad stories about it.

Anyone?

Just got back.

It was an education.

My children both loved it and enjoyed the freedom and making new friends. They enjoyed the arcade games and they enjoyed learning lots of new swear words in different regional accents to our own.

I enjoyed watching them through the skanky net curtains.

Caravan wasn't pristine but it wasn't flea infested either. Site was clean enough although caravans well and truly packed in with no areas to play.

The Centre was neat and tidy but the Restaurant was, shall we say...., a bit sticky. The pool was small and the life guards were miserable bastards BUT ALL the rest of the staff were polite and warm and friendly.

All in all - not too bad but glad to be back to me own bed

"they enjoyed learning lots of new swear words in different regional accents to our own."

I have always said it, trips, no matter to where are ALWAYS an educational experience

we went to haven seashore near great yarmouth last week and I was absolutely dreading it having read bad reviews and having never stayed in a caravn before

we booked it cos of center parcs being £1400 a week and haven being £600

we really liked it, yes the caravan wasnt perfect (but it was fine) and certainly not as comfortable as villas at CP, pool was basic and had shorter opening hours but dd (nearly 4) loved the entire week and had a fantastic time and for that I will return, we have already looked at next years prices.

The funstars were brilliant with the kids and the entertainment all evenings is free, if a bit cheesy. While we were there dd got to do painting, mask making, cooking and watch a pantomime, totally free - I dread to think what it would cost at CP and for that reason I have my reservations about going back to CP until she is older.

Your expectations have to be different I guess, if you turn up expecting wide open spaces, plush interiors and outstanding facilities then you'll be dissapointed. True, when we went to have breakfast with the characters there was a guy or a couple having a pint with thier fry up but they didnt make me have any and they did it quietly at their table LOL so i didnt see the problem.

One thing I would say is that at CP if you report a fault with your willa they fix it then and there, when we arrived we discovered our caravan hadnt been cleaned or emptied from last people - we were immediatly moved and had our early check in refunded, however when i complained that the gas fire didnt light and that there was a door knob missing they took down the details but never fixed them.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking just thought I would add my twopenny worth (which turned into a quid!)
