I dont collect clubcard vouchers.... no tesco or sainsbury where I live

My budget is about £350 - not much I know, but once you have paid petrol, food, spending money etc... it all adds up.

Im pairing up with my friend who has 2 children and is finacially worse off than I am. The £350 is between us both. Or aim was to find a cheap break somewhere, possibly down south (We live north west) where the kids can play on parks and in the pool etc. I avoid commercial places like the plague if I can help it but we are doing this for the children who have all had a pretty horrible year.

This is all quite new to me and sometimes, being a single mum sometimes sucks

Bye bye log cabins and private villas....hello pop up tent on Crosby beach and pot noodles al fresco!

I think you will get something in budget. you just have to look hard and be a little less fussy with your accomodation quality.

How many DCs do you have

Nixz · 16/06/2009 23:19

There are 3 DC's and 2 adults.

Really struggling to be honest, ive looked at sites advertising private caravans aswell...I'll keep at it!! It will be worth it in the end, im sure!!

Would you be flexible o location or accomodation type?

You might find it cheaper in parts of Licolnshire (e.g. Skegness) or Yorkshire (e.f. Filey) that going on the South coast.

might squeeze into budget

have a browse round this site

Might not be quite what you want but will hopefully prove that it is possible to have a holiday on that budget.

Try this place:

www.newhousefarm.co.uk. Was in the Indi Best of at the Weekend and from a quick looks it appears they have caravans from £10 pppn - not sure on availability however.

Hope you can find something.

gomez · 17/06/2009 16:07

Actually is only £10 per night (for the caravan) not per person.

We stayed at a campsite at May half term where they had Readytents - all you bring are sleeping bags, pillows and towels. They were new for this year and have only been up since April.

It costs £230 for a week. The site has no on-site facilities apart from a small hatch serving basic grocery items. It is on the river though. It is near Henley.

Will link site if you are interested?

There's a place in Wales here in Carmarthenshire which seems to have space in Heron or Swallow cottages 18th July, both sleep 4 in 2 beds and have private garden, £355 for the week

We love Norfolk for cheap, quiet, childfriendly holidays. There's a quiet private chalet park in Stalham on the broads (but close to lovely beaches) which is great value for money. Outdoor heated swimming pool/paddling poo.l, children's play area. Small clubhouse on site. Must look up how to put on links, but there's a chalet under the name by otter holidays that has availability throughout August at just £305 for the week. Double bedroom, room with bunks and pull-out bed for the children and a double sofabed in the lounge. Seems good value to me!

We've just booked 4 nights in Cornwall for £274 in a caravan(which can sleep up to 8 I think) on a Parkdean holiday campsite. That included use of all their facilities, pool and sports courts etc. It's right near beaches and beautiful countryside too.

You are right about it being A LOT more expensive this year than most to holiday in GB. It's the glamping (glamorous+camping) and staycationing that making it trendy and therefore pricey.

Check out the Parkdean website. They have some reasonable deals.

I'm like you OP, wouldn't usually go for a holiday camp sort of holiday but you gotta try everything once.

We are camping - £200-odd for a week at a lovely campsite, tons of facilities & things in local area.

Cheap secondhand tent, borrowing all the bits and bobs from friends.

Now if only I could put a deposit on some good weather...

There are some really great links and ideas on here, thankyou ladies. I will trawl through them at the weekend and update you.

Quite excited now!
