Have your children been to a traditional British seaside?

Just curious really.

7y DD has BTW.

Her school are having a whole school day out to the seaside. They can't wait; the girls are very excited. They are visiting a "besde the seaside" museum, taking buckets and spades to the beach, having fish and chips for lunch and having ice creams in the afternoon before heading home.

I know a few of the classes have been looking at coastal seasides around the UK as part of various aspects of the curriculum, geography, etc.

Also what came out is that there are a suprising number of children who haven't been to a traditional british seaside before.

I wondered if this is quite common for modern children. Do they have all these fab holidays abroad, but rarely visit their own seaside resorts?

So, have your children experienced our seasides?

purepurple i live in Thornton. Just up the road from you.
Tend to got to the beach at Fleetwood and the front at Cleveleys is absolutely stunning now they have done it up. You could believe that you are abroad it is so lovely.

We treck to the sand dunes and the front at Lytham, especially love the lake there.

We realy do live in a gorgoeous part of the north west.
Agree about Blackpool, only ever venture there for the lumies for the kids really, other than that i avoid it.

sunburntats, Fairhaven Lake is my DD's favourite place! I am not too keen, I have a bit of a bird phobia! It is good for spotting bunnies and the cafe is really nice.
I love living here. We have been here for 8 years now.

Just returned from a day at the beach - fish and chips, ice creams, tacky arcades, swimming in the sea and endless sandcastles made a fun but tiring day out!

BottySpottom · 14/06/2009 23:40

Absolutely. We love a really lovely summer's day at a British seaside resort with really tacky donkeys, candy floss, sludge coloured sea and scarlett coloured holiday makers .

bumsrush · 14/06/2009 23:50

I live in a seaside town but prefer days out at quieter beaches, with out the tacky bits, still have chips on the way home though.

We live 10 minutes walk from the beach but even before we moved here would drive down quite regularly. Brother visited with kids recently and 3 yr old asked if he could swim in the sea. SIL replied, "no, darling, it's not like Paxos!". Felt quite sorry for him!

Every week in the summer as we live in Devon. We do all types, quiet coves, larger beaches with huts selling parasols and buckets, ice cream and cheap coffee. We have been to those with amusement arcades etc, but only a couple times passing through as DD is much to young, the longer we leave those ones the better!

We have just come back from a weekend at the beach (well, 2 different beaches, Porthcothan and Merlin in Cornwall).

PavlovtheCat · 15/06/2009 09:36

boden DD swims in the sea, even when its winter

orangehead · 15/06/2009 09:40

yes, wales and cornwall. But we dont live anywhere near the coast, Im very jeaslous of the mn that do. I would be there everyday if we did

snickersnack · 15/06/2009 09:40

I love all bits of the British seaside at all times of year - my favourite is Southwold in the winter, but I also like Brighton in the summer. dcs have done the beach in Cornwall several times, but for some reason we've never done traditional British seaside - donkey rides, funfair, fish and chips etc. Cornwall is more crab sandwiches and sew-your-own-bunting.

JRocks · 15/06/2009 09:50

Yes, we live in a beach village in Cornwall, so are rather spoilt for seaside experiences

nappyaddict · 19/06/2009 15:18

We have been to Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Looe, Newquay, St Ives, Penzance, the Lizard in Cornwall, Bude, Woolacombe, Brean, Weston, Blackpool, Rhyl, Prestatyn, Barmouth, Abergavenny, Aberystwyth, New Quay, Tenby, Porthmadog, Aberdovey, Pwllheli
