Is Bluestone going to be the best option for us, or can you suggest anything better?

We're planning a short break this summer. There will be DH, me, DD, DSS and probably a friend of DSS. Now the problem comes with finding something suitable which will keep everyone entertained/happy. DD will be nearly 2, so we will want activities to keep her happy, along with a safe environment. DSS is 18, so we also want enough activites to keep him from super boredom! Finally, we want comfort, even luxury. Having recently been to MN favourite Mousses and finding the level of comfort very disappointing, we really need nice big comfy beds, big squishy sofas, etc!

So, at the moment Bluestone in Wales looks like it covers most of the above. Can anyone please either recommend it & say it has all we need, or recommend somewhere else. We are sort of Midlands based, so Wales/SW England are best for us.

Many thanks in advance

You sound like you want the same as us! So bumping.

I live nearby and a lot of friends have gone to Bluestone and rave about it. The only thing I would say is that there won't be much nightlife. This is deepest countryside so there won't be clubs or anything, best DSS could hope for is a nice friendly pub!

How about Bedruthan Steps Hotel in Cornwall or Watergate Bay hotel. Definitely for families and close to Newquay which is ideal for teenagers. Close to Padstow too.

I've been to the Lagoon in Bluestone which was fab but not stayed in the village so can't comment on the accommodation which looks lovely but quite expensive.

Celtic Haven is much smaller than Bluestone. Whenever I walk past there is always someone staying there for their holidays. It seems very popular but never overrun with people IYKWIM.

Dogs are allowed in certain cottages but aren't allowed to be left on their own (so I've been told by a owner of a Welsh Terrier), which is considerate to other guests.

Thanks for all the replies

Twofalls, trying to please everyone is quite tricky isn't it?!

Will check out Bedruthan & Watergate Bay, so thanks for those suggestions (we did the Headland Hotel in Newquay with DSS a couple of times a few years back, and agree that area could be quite a good idea).

JB & Hellyshoes - what else is there around Bluestone? I am afraid that I don't know the area at all - I have been to Wales twice in my life, the last time was 20 odd years ago. Is Bluestone near good beaches? What are the local towns like?

Sorry I am asking so many questions. Really appreciate your advice

No probs Rindercella.

Bluestone is next to Oakwood Park, fast rides etc much smaller than Alton Towers although Megaphobia is a good wooden rollercoaster.

As for towns, Bluestone is not too far from anywhere, you'll need a car though. Nearest large town is Haverfordwest which has two large supermarkets and bigger chain shops in an industrial park out of town. The town itself is really lovely and a lot of the shopping streets are pedestrianized, nice just to wander around but also "proper shops" should you need them.

Narberth is closer but is smaller, basically one street with individual boutique shops, very nice deli.

Tenby, probably 30/40 minutes away. It gets very busy though so parking is a pain but the main street is pedestrianized in the summer months which makes walking about easier.

Closest beach is Freshwater West, absolutely beautiful but there are no facilities there, just a car park. Very popular with surfers. All the Tenby beaches (apart from the harbour beach) got their blue flags and no dogs are allowed on the beaches between May and September.

We had a short break in Bluestone in February with friends (6 adults, 6DCs). We had a great time, even though we got snowed in, hopefully you won't have that problem!

Would recommend a trip to Tenby, although it'll be busy in the summer, or Saundersfoot which is just along the coast, fab fish and chip shop and a lovely beach.

The accomodation is very well equipped(compared to self catering cottages we have been in), would recommend doing a supermarket shop before you get there (we stopped at Tesco in Camarthen) and only using the shop on-site for milk/bread as it hasn't got a huge range of items and is a bit overpriced.

Happy Holidays

Brilliant. Thanks so much for your responses.

I think we're going to go with Bluestone, and your replies have confirmed my feeling about it. Having the theme park next door will definitely be a bonus for DSS (although we may well steer clear!). Hopefully the lack of clubs, bars, etc., will not put DSS off too much (and we can get him to babysit his liitle sister when we go out for dinner - yay!).
