The Railway museum is great. Also the Castle museum and the Minster, the Yorkshire Wheel.

There is a Pizza Express which is child friendly. We also went to an all you can eat chinese/ thai buffet which the DC loved.

You could go on a boat trip. If the weather is really good, you could always hop on a train to Whitby or Scarborough.

Enjoy

Second the Railway Museum.

Betty's tearooms.

Tbh we went for 4 days last summer, it tipped it down every day. We really struggled to find things to do to keep the dc entertained. We ended up going to see Wall E at the cinema.

It is a lovely city but if you don't want to venture to the coast, then I wouldn't really say there is that much to do, but I am prepared to be corrected.

I think there maybe a good play on for children at York Theatre Royal over easter.

Yorkshire wheel's gone now!

Go to museums etc early.I don't know if you can pre book Jorvik but there is always a huge queue. Castle museum is excellent. Also you can do a walk around the city walls.

Bari (an italian restaurant in the Shambles) does reasonably priced pizza, pasta at lunch time and is child friendly. Betty's is good but expensive. Beningborough Hall is a nice National Trust property nearby.

Be warned traffic and parking are a bit of a nightmare in the centre of York.

Cafe Concerto, in High Petergate. Great food, good prices and family friendly. Amazing cake...

Dig is good, we didnt expect much but our children really enjoyed it. You can buy a combined ticket with Jorvik and you go around in groups, they explain about archeology on a childs level then you get the chance to try it out !

creepy crawlies soft play and petting farm is award winning and highly recommended.

lots of good restaurants. there's a gourmet burger kitchen if you're into burgers. I really like the living room - mid range prices but yummy food and nice view over the river.

Hello - sorry if this is a bit late in the day, only just seen this...

If it isn't tipping it down try a visit to Rowntree's Park to see the ducks/go on the swings.

Take a boat trip down the River Ouse.

Visit the National Railway Museum.

Creepy Crawlies Play Centre is good, but Crazy Tykes is better (though this is in Thorp Arch near Wetherby).

Plenty of restaurants and pubs in the city centre - all major chains - Pizza Express and Zizzis, and Ask in particular well worth a visit due to great building it is based in.

See what is on at the City Screen cinema in the city centre.

Hope this helps!
