Me, dh and ds who is 2.7 that is.
We are not very outdoor type people. We enjoy walking, but that's about it in terms of activity.
WOuld it be a waste of time for us to go there? It looks like tha accomodation is nice and we are planning a week somewhere in the UK in the summer...

If you do decide to go to CP, then go Mid-Week (Mon-Fri 4 Nights) it will be lower cost than a full week and if you did hate it, you can look forward to going home again shortly.

We have NT memebership, so yes, nannynick, that might be an option too.

Ooh, it is quite good fun planning a wee break.

I love Centre Parcs but I don't think it would suit you from what you say.

What about this place ? I have always wanted to go here but my kids are too old now.

nickytwotimes · 30/03/2009 20:08

Ilana, that looks lovely.

"Centre Parks"????

nannynick · 30/03/2009 20:11

Current Center Parcs discount codes:
PSB9
CPWEB

You can obtain pricing now from their website, see what is available and compare the costs. Play around with dates as much as you are able, plus the accomodation type - you can sometimes get a lower price by increasing the number of bedrooms - strange I know, but worked for me back in January, I got a 3-Bed cheaper than a 1-Bed.

While you are in your cabin/house its fine and you feel as if you are living in the forest away from it all.

But as soon as you get out there are hordes of people. And as you get closer to the centre there are more and more and it all feels like you have been corralled into a made-up film set of a village. Although there are different restaurants they are pretty samey and all full of young children.

There is a terrific scrum to get the activities you want booked at the start of it all and they cost an arm and a leg.

So it depends whether you like being surrounded by loads of people and children and bikes and push chairs or whether that gives you the screamimg ab dabs.

Whinfell CP is closest to Scotland. If you use Mumsnet Advanced Search and use keyword: Whinfell plus select a date range, such as starting from 01/01/08, then you will find lots of messages from mumsnetters who have been there, what they thought of the place... the good and the bad.

Activity booking as improved greatly in my view since the introduction of on-line booking. They do cost a lot though, so you may prefer not to book them. Spa sessions are cheapest at night... if DH isn't into Sauna's... then leave him to babysit, while you enjoy 3 hours of relaxation at the Spa (they call it AquaSana).

its very BUSY
if you want to be alone dont go there.
there are masses of folk and the dome thing is pretty naff

MegBusset · 30/03/2009 20:43

Agree with Katisha and JudithChalmers.

Sounds like you would be better off getting a cottage somewhere within reach of day trips, beach etc.

MegBusset · 30/03/2009 20:45

IlanaK, that place looks amazing!

giantkatestacks · 30/03/2009 20:46

Has anyone done the featherdown farms btw while you're here?

clayre · 30/03/2009 20:50

Nickytwotimes what park do you go to? we also go at the scottish/english school holiday overlap

nickytwotimes · 31/03/2009 08:54

My laptop went last night! Eek!
Got it running agin now. [phew]

Thanks for all the replies.

I think it sounds a bit too busy for us. Peace and quiet is more our thing so we will try looking for a wee cottage and make some use of our NT cards.

Thanks once again for the replies.

We've just booked at Bosinver. Proper cottage, not thousands of people on site, and TBH the attractions of being able to go wherever one chooses beat Centerparc' walled garden.
