Hotel, B&B, whatever - just for a night or two. Thanks

Oh dear, no one seems to know.

I can't help with any recommendations of accomodation, but I would suggest staying in Alnmouth, rather than Alnwick. They are a couple of miles apart. Alnmouth is by the sea and Alnwick has the castle and garden. You could drive to Alnwick for castle, garden, and enjoy Alnmouth's beach with lovely sand in walking distance. Is pretty village with nice pubs.

We stayed in a rented cottage, of which there are plenty, so can't advise on hotels etc. But in terms of places, we stayed in Beadnell which is on the coast about 20 mins from Alnwick. Seahouses probably has plenty of B&Bs and is a similar distance. Craster is nice. There are amazing beaches all along that coast - Embleton Sands in particular.

If you want something to do with the kids on a rainy day, Alnwick has a lovely swimming pool - brand new so really nice pool, good changing rooms etc. We loved it with out 6mo DS when on (a rainy) holiday there last year.

we got a cottage for four nights from

welcomecottages somewhere near Craster.

We often do cottages instead of hotels as it is so much more space and freedom. And in the evening dont have to go to bed with the kids!

Dead reasonable to out of season.

Thanks HQ and noonki. We're cottage people too noonki - this question is actually on behalf of friends who have relatives in the NE but just want to take a trip to the Harry Potter castle for a day and stay over. So I think it will have to be a B&B/hotel

When are they going? How old are their children?
Alnmouth is great is the weather is okay..the beach is fab and it's got a v pretty estuary..best bit is by the sand dunes to the right. My kids (7 and 3 DDs) love to play pirates there. Accommodation? well, we've always stayed in cottages there. There ARE pubs..the Sun Inn, the Schooner (I think). I'd go for a B&B - go to the Alnwick Tourist Information Centre website. Alnmouth can get a bit noisy we found if you were on the mainstreet..not terribly but the houses there tend to butt up against the pavement so there's no garden. B & Bs tend to be set back (more modern houses) so would be quieter. If it rains, you'd have to drive to somewhere as there's nothing much to do. Alnwick has a good softplay centre on the edge of town; Seahouses is more downmarket but nice in a seasidey way. Craster has nothing for very young kids but is quite pretty.

Seahouses is a bit of a naff town. But is it where the boats to the Farne Islands leave from? I think it might be getting close to seabird nesting-time on the Farne Islands. The Boat trip there to see nesting puffins, cormorants, etc, and be dive bombed by terns is the VERY BEST family daytrip we have ever had.

thanks thread. we might be in that neck of the woods this summer.

I don't mind passing through seahouses

there is a pub with rooms just at the turnoff to Lindisfarne. I think it is called the Lindusfarne Inn. We have not stayed there but have had a meal there and the rooms were fairly recently built out the back of the pub. I think that they had a small play area outside but I am not sure.
