I met friends for lunch at The Living Room recently on George Street. Nice.

You must go here for dinner if they're open on Sundays, it is the most fantastic cosy bistro, wonderful wonderful food and not too expensive. DH and I are planning another trip to Edinburgh soon just so we can go out for dinner (not sure what we will do with DD, pop her under the table perhaps)

Cafe Marlayne
76, Thistle St, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH2 1EN

The Witchery for an early dinner?

pointydog · 20/02/2009 14:57

cripes! witchery is pricey

Bettymum · 20/02/2009 14:58

Ditto the galleries on the Mound, also the Museum of Scotland on Chambers St is great if you like wandering round museums, they have all kinds of things in there. Have spent many a happy Sunday afternoon there.
Also this is a lovely place for coffee nearby.

Bettymum · 20/02/2009 14:59

I don't think the Witchery is nearly as good as it used to be

Dh & I went to a superb place on the Royal Mile last year - Monteiths. Was going to recommend it, but have just googled and their website doesn't seem to exist any more.

Aw BettyMum, really? We haven't been there for 5+ years, but was hoping to go again soon now that we've moved back to Edinburgh.

Pointy - yes it it £££ but they do a good pre-theatre menu (or used to....)

Bettymum · 20/02/2009 16:20

Hi SobranieCocktail,
I ate there two and a half years ago, on honeymoon - DH's parents paid for us to stay a night there, which was just fantastic and worth every penny. However I did have to wake DH up in the night to go with me to the loo as I as scared of the ghosts
The food and service in the restaurant just didn't seem as good as it used to be (I went two or three times about 8-10 years ago and yes, the pre-theatre menu was very good value) and remembered it being much better. However the restaurant itself is still beautiful and it is a special place. I believe the owner has another place in the Museum itself, is it called the Tower or something like that?
Let me know if you go back and if it is still good, maybe we just had an off night. Can DEFINITELY recommend Cafe Marlayne though.

pointydog · 20/02/2009 16:32

I'm tempted to go to cafe marlayne on my nect night out in edinburgh
