Hoseasons Lodge Vs Centerparcs

Dp and I want to go away for a week starting around 27th of June, the two of us and dd who will be 3.

We've looked at Centerparcs, 1k for the week, and Hoseasons Lodge parks which are much cheaper but the pool at the Nottingham one looks naff on the pics.

Ideas, experiences and any other reccommendations gratefully received! We are in the North East and wouldn't want to drive for more than 3 hours so Devon/Cornwall are out.

ime you cannot compare the two.

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 07/02/2009 20:05

can you not get cheaper accomadation in june than 1k?

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 07/02/2009 20:05

at cp that is...

smellen · 07/02/2009 20:08

If you could hack the trip down to Dorset, could recommend www.logcabinsdorset.co.uk/contact_us.htm. Approx £300 for a 2 bed log cabin outside of school hols. 10mns to a beautiful National Trust beach, steam train to Corfe Castle and Swanage; Dinosaur museum, Monkey World etc. all 30mns drive away. Lovely accommodation, price includes logs for the wood burner and laundry (if you book for the week).

The cheapest at Sherwood was 743 (sorry this keyboard appears to have lost it's pound sign) but that was only for Comfort accommodation and I know that we would want something a bit more plush than that. 1k was for a new style exec lodge.

If you look on www.hotukdeals.com you can usually find discount codes. I just got 20% off a weekend.

IKnowIShouldntEatIt · 07/02/2009 20:36

alternatively, look at a Euro CP. We went to Belgium last October hols. UK price for the week was £1400. An upgraded Belgian lodge was only 750 euro!! We got our ferry travel, bike hire and spending money for less than the cost of the accommodation in the UK. The overnight ferry added to the holiday and the kids thought it was really exciting.

duckyfuzz · 07/02/2009 20:47

what about forest holidays

LaDiDaDi · 07/02/2009 21:00

Ooh they look lovely! I want a hot tub!

I will show dp tomorrow, thanks duckyfuzz.

but if you're not happy in the comfort at centerparcs surely you wont be happy at hoseasons? Or am I just being a bit dim?

skramble · 08/02/2009 23:07

Hoseasons don't own the parks themselves they are only and agent, the parks are ownded and run by a variety of chains and independent operators. Some are very similar to Haven/ Centre parks and some have few facilites and offer a quieter holiday park with perhaps just a play park.

You really have to look at each individual park to see what they offer, I find they are much better value than CP, but do also check if it is cheaper to book direct with the park.

I

skramble · 08/02/2009 23:08

Hoseasons have some very lux lodges, so don't be snobby centre parks is just butlins with lodges and more trees .

skramble · 08/02/2009 23:16

Stayed in the sister park of this one but used tho pool facilities here, ok it is no water wonderland but lovely setting nice pool and a little bit cheaper

skramble · 08/02/2009 23:19

This has more activities and bigger pool complex £750 for a 3 bed

glucose · 08/02/2009 23:36

would disagree with skramble on this

i have tried centre parcs, butlins, hoseasons, park resorts, & haven.

Centre parcs may appear to be Butlin's with trees, but having tried all of the above, it is the place I would go back to time and time again.

Ceolas · 08/02/2009 23:44

We've been to Center Parcs and don't agree that it's far superior. We've only been during school holidays and find it to be very busy and the pools extremely crowded.

We've had far nicer accommodation elsewhere for much cheaper. Comfort accommodation at CP is very basic IMO.

skramble · 08/02/2009 23:51

Ah see now I have never been to CP, but just never fancied paying that much for what you get, then having t pay loads for all the other stuff too.

But then I can get CP style woodland walks right where I live so won't pay 1k for that.

giantkatestacks · 09/02/2009 09:34

Agree that in the school hols is cheaper and much less chaotic but the OP doesnt have school age kids does she?so unless theres teachers in the family CP is good value outside school hols if you use the almost constant 20% offers and pick and choose carefully.

The activities are expensive but our kids just want to stay in the pool or the parks all day anyway - though we do ten pin bowling and crazy gold as well. And I always use the spa which is lovely and something you dont find at those other places.

i also dont think the comfort is that basic but then maybe I'm easily pleased

Ceolas · 09/02/2009 09:49

I don't think there's anything wrong with the comfort. Just seems expensive for what it is. We've been to Nottingham and Penrith. Found Penrith to be of a slightly higher standard, but again have had more 'home comforts' at lower priced accommodation elsewhere.

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 09/02/2009 12:22

I agree i find cp good value out of peak times - we are tied to school times now so look far alternatives - recently went to goosewood park on the outskirts of york which was nice and you got your hot tub

giantkatestacks · 09/02/2009 12:27

tsk apologies for all the mistakes in my post...of course I meant outside the school holidays are cheaper and we do crazy golf not crazy gold..

LaDiDaDi · 09/02/2009 18:39

Thanks all.

Will try to pin dp down on our plans tonight!
