Having not had a lie-in in four years I've started fantasising about a weekend break with childcare. Are they all terminally naff? Any recommendations? We live in London and would prefer not to have to drive further than 3 hours.

The luxury family hotels places are great - have been to one in Wiltshire (Woolley Grange - around 3 hours away from london) and also the Elms - which was 2.5 hours away from London - and was excellent. The childcare facilities dont open first thing in the morning but they're open shortly after breakfast time and you can leave your kids in the creche for a couple of hours and retire to bed/go to gym/for walk etc.

The Grove in Hertfordshire is supposed to be v nice and family friendly and only 1-2hrs depending on where you are in London.

Calcot Manor in Tetbury, Cotswolds - it's beautiful and very child friendly. My friend Helen and I have set up a web-site [ [www.awaywiththekids.co.uk]] - we are hunting down places for families like ours (we have 3 kids children each) so please do take a look.

Will check it out! I am trying to decide where to go for Easter - The Grove, Four Seasons, Calcot Manor etc.

The Grove has had a couple of poor crits on tripadvisor recently. The one thing that does put me off is too many unruly children running around whilst their parents quaff champagne. A real bugbear of mine!

The Old Bell Hotel, Malmesbury, Wilts (20 mins from M4 junction 17)
