I am considering a week's holiday on my own with the DC mid July. I would prefer a lodge over a caravan.

Please let me know your feelings, good and not so good. Thanks

Don't know anything about the place, but its not that far from me

I asked this the other day - mixed responses tbh here

naswm · 31/01/2009 16:17

oh thanks Lizs - that will teach me for not running a search first but maybe this will bring some different responses which can help us both

when are you planning to go? I am planning the first week of our hols which is 13 July

Similar time , before the main holidays

lizs have you looked at Shorefield? It is down on the coast.

no, will do now ....

I like the look of Shorefield. It is more expensive than Sandy Balls, but not as expensive as Center Parcs.

My main priority is for privacy though. I cannot bear the thought of being so close to other people

yes it is £££ ! How much is it to buy a plot there I wonder. Still undecided.

naswm · 31/01/2009 16:35

I really dont know what to do about this lizs as well. I want to decide sooner rather than later (to get the best choice of accomodation, even though we are going just before peak season) but I just dont know what to do. I need to keep the price down as muh as possible (but dont have a budget as such) but also dont want to spend money on a cheaper option and be unhappy.

Maybe I should go and get on with the tea and think on it more....

I def want the NF/Hampshire area though and the DS are already planning the days out lol (namely Paultons Park and Beaulieu - so I have told them that will be it for expensive day trips that week!)

Ooh, I'm glad someone has mentioned this - we are planning a break there for the first week in August. I've been to Shorefield twice and it was nice - but I think Sandy Balls looks more upmarket to be honest. We have stayed in a caravan and lodge at shorefield (lodge better than caravan).

Saying that - Shorefield is better for location (10 mins drive from Lymington and near a big Waitrose etc).

We went to Sandy Ball about four years ago in October. We were very unlucky with the weather. Rain, rain, rain! In terms of accommodation, it was very similar to the basic Centre Parks villas. Absolutely fine. Not so much to do as Centre Parks when it rains though but it is a smaller set up.

It was a bit of a shock to have cars driving round the site having been to Centre parks and not have to worry about that so much.

The children's entertainment in the evening was good. We didn't try the little pool because we were wet enough all ready!

The New Forest looked very nice (from inside our car). We saw a bit of Buckler's Hard in a break in the rain - worth a visit.

I have to say I love Sandy Balls and have been there 4 times in the past 2 years. However we always go out of season in the winter when it's quiet (and cheap!) and I'm not sure I'd love it so much during school holidays.

We prefer to stay in the the superior lodges (beds were more comfortable).

How old are your children naswm?
