Moonfleet Manor - which room is best?

Planning 2 nights at Moonfleet Manor next week and as off peak virtually no price difference between room types. Anyone have any views? Will be travelling with DH, DS(6) and the dog! Considering Coach House or Luxury Suite. My thinking is that Coach House would be great with dog but perhaps not so great for a wet weekend in January?

..sorry, that should read Large Suite (with sitting room)

is there a door between the sitting room (where DS sleeps) and your room? And is that relevant to you?

We have stayed at Moonfleet, and I'm afraid I can't remember the sorts of rooms. But once there was a huge lovely room on the top floor, where the sitting area was split from the double bed by a small bathroom. This let our children (3 and 4 at the time) have access to us which was slightly tooo easy in the morning. They loved it! But maybe that's not a problem for you.

Don't know the coach house. None of the rooms are far from the main house though.

Thanks fridayschild, yes the large suite has a door between the bedroom and the sitting area. The Coach House has 2 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms for the same price though! Seems like a no brainer but just wondering if it might be better in the main building. I have visions of the Coach House having been empty & cold since New Year. Mind you,can always ask to move

Has anyone been to Moonfleet Manor in the last 6-12 months, can find loads about it in 04-06 with reports of it being a little rundown late 2006, just wondering if it's had any money spent on it recently.

sellorrenovate - would love to hear a review from you when you get back - have a great time!

Just returned from a 2 night stay. We had a lovely time and enjoyed it much more than Ickworth (much less pretetious and far better staff & service). Our room was called "Grace" and was on the top floor and was massive. A living room area with double sofa bed for DS plus his own TV & ensuite shower room. There was then a narrow corridor (no door) that opened out into the main bedrom and a simply massive bathroom.
The level of service from the staff was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The food was great and DS loved the indoor play barn and the pool. He also spent an hour in the creche which was great.
Shabby Chic is probably the best description for the decor (very colonial style), we found it a very relaxing place to go. If I had a criticism I would say the pool needs a refurb. It's really strange as the website claims it's just been done but it certainly didn't look like it.
We would definitely go back but I'm not sure I'd want to be there peak season. Oh and the dog loved it too as you can go straight out onto miles of coastal path .

thanks we are off there on Sunday, we have the cheapest room so doubt it will be as nice as yours but looking forward to just relaxing.

Do you know if babies are allowed in the pool?

verylapsedrunner · 27/01/2009 13:53

I'm sure babies are allowed in the pool.

We went there for half term, we go there annually as its our favourite in the group, purely because of the location. (Highly recommend Monkey world for outing.) Also love the huge indoor space with pool table, trampoline etc.. and a bar for grown ups overlooking it! It has been spruced up a lot, but not so much that you feel paranoid in muddy wellies.
The pool itself hasn't had refurb as they are trying to get planning permission to replace it, in meantime they've spruced up changing rooms which are really nice now. babies can go in the pool - no restrictions on times that kids can go in pool (as there are at Calcot) because it is only families there.
We get a bit fed up with the restaurant as we go there often and menu doesn't change frequently. We either stay in a coach house, have a main meal at lunchtime with the children, and get takeaways from Weymouth to eat in the evening once kids asleep, or get a suite in the main house and use baby listening. Would be v. uncomfortable using baby listening in coach house as it is a little further away. (Suite we stayed in last was huge but openplan, called Sir Henry Peto and lovely generally but uncomfortable mattress). If you are planning on eating with your 6 year old, get the coach house. If you want baby listening go for suite, imo.
Have fun!

When we stayed in the coach house, we hired a baby sitter, because we also felt uncomfortable about leaving our children alone there. dd1 was old enough to open the door and go wandering. If she had done that she would have been outside in the dark. It was an extra expense, but Moonfleet is expensive.

Having said that, the coach house rooms were very nice.
