Can't decide where in the UK to go this year - looking for a fab cottage not too far from the coast.

not sure where in the UK we want to go! We were looking to spend about £400 per week for a cottage. Ideally no more than 5 hours drive from Manchester, so not the North of Scotland, nor Devon/Cornwall. I wondered if any of you have returned from places you'd recommend?

We like Whitby but it is cold (I used to live there so I know!)

Beach is glorious tho.

We also love Pembrokeshire we think it is as nice as Conrwall but cheaper and without the crowds.

FBM here is very good for houses in Tenby itself, tho St David?s is nice too (bit further away for us but I guess it depends on yr route?)

If you are going in July-Aug I think tbh you will do well to find somewhere for £400.

If you can be flexible re area (going a few miles inland usually saves £££) and wrt flat/house (flat is often cheaper as no outside space or parking) then you should find somewhere.

HTH

sexonlegs just googled yr primrose cottage and it looks lovely - handy for Stackpole Inn too which we like.

See tho that's £1k for summer hols (it is a lot bigger than OP needs tho).

Hi Clary. It is a beautiful area isn't it. Appreciate the cottage is too big for the op though.

We had lunch at the Stackpole Inn - deelish

Paddingtonbore... did u book anywhere yet?

We have just booked a cottage in Pembrokeshire, near Haverfordwest. scoltondotcom. Its £605 for a week in August. Its two beds, and looks great. The site has a large indoor pool, sauna and steamroom. That swung it for me!! It seems a good price, but that is probably coz its 20min drive from beach.

Clary · 08/01/2009 22:03

yes ruthie that's what it is.

If you want to walk to the beach I reckon you pay a lot more.

Actually our lovely hol cottage is in Tenby town, 10 mins walk to beach/town facilities and has four beds/two baths for £730 in August. Bargainous!!!

Clary · 08/01/2009 22:04

No sauna tho

Aldeburgh in Suffolk. Try www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk.

It's a bit pricey, but the cottages are dreamy, and the Suffolk coast is fabulous.

We use coastal cottages in Pembs as well, was lovely, went to Saundersfoot which is nice and small and quiet, girls loved it.
We stayed here with friends and their little boy and dog. Ae going back as soon as we can!

thanks all for the brilliant suggestions. I think the Llyn is in the lead so far, but we won't be booking for a while (I need to get back to work first ), so we've got lots of time to have a good look and change our minds .

Hi, have a look at the flat on www.devonholidayhouses.co.uk.

jr257 · 04/02/2009 20:26

Hiya - have you tried looking on Child Friendly Cottages? (www.childfriendlycottages.co.uk) We've just been looking at a few lovely ones on there in Wales and they've got loads across the UK.

redrobin · 04/02/2009 20:31

Try this one, its in Glencoe, near Fort William which is prob about 5 hours exactly from manchester....we stay there a lot, child friendly, massive garden, loads of things to do while you're there....www.houseinglencoe.com

Near mountains, the whitest and most deserted beaches ever, lovely log fire and spectacular views. can't wait to go back! (in fact shouldn't tell anyone about it!)

southwold (beach huts and dinky)
Staithes (near whitby)
lake district
Northumbaland (incredible)

loved them all and we live in Manchester and idn't take us longer than that (though southwold was close)
