.....with a 2 and a 7 year old? Planning on flying to Inverness and hiring a car. I'm planning on booking into the MAcDonald B&B place and doing day-trip actiities from there.......so any ideas gratefully received.

Jus back from a few days in Fort William and loved the scenery so decided to go for perhaps a week this trip and check it out.

TIA MN

We are going to Aviemore next month! I can't wait, I'm so excited. I've just been exploring all the links and trying to decide what we are going to want to do.

Of course I know the weather is going to be glorious and the midges nowhere in sight/bite!

Now, where was that link to the Avon skin-so-soft stuff...?!

Have fun

Landmark is very good but will be busy but worth it anyway probably.

The beach at Loch Morlich is fantastic with spectacular view up cairngorm. The swimming there is great and they do water sports too.

Thanks Wallace. I've just been researching the options, and wish we were going for longer now.

We have 3 full days (4 nights) in Aviemore, so lots to cram in!

Wallace · 04/06/2009 20:12

There you go then this is what I would do if it was my holiday : One day at Landmark, one day on the beach at Loch Morlich (weather permitting) and one day going for a nice long walk and a picnic and enjoying the beautiful scenery

A nice walk would be to take the Steam Train from Aviemore to Boat of Garten then walk back along the Speyside way. About 6 miles I think.

We phoned the Reindeer place, but they've put up the price of the Reindeer trek from £30 to £45 per person, which is outrageous we think. Dh is really cross with them that the website is incorrect. So, we're going to give that one a miss and do something else instead, of a less 'lets fleece the tourists' nature.

I don't really fancy Landmark - it seems to manufactured to me.

We're going to try and find out how expensive it is for a 2 hr slot in the badger/pine marten hide at Aigas

Wallace · 04/06/2009 21:17

That is expensive for the reindeer!

Aigas - Never been there (or even heard of it ) but it does look very interesting.

Landmark is very manufactured, but kids love it. However it does get very busy and it does sound to me like you wouldn't really enjoy somewhere so busy and noisy...

We are lucky to be able to go at very quiet times and enjoy it more. We use it like it is the local park!

There is also the Highland Wildlife park - also manufactured fun - but the tigers are cool.

roisin · 04/06/2009 21:30

I think Aigas is a tad exclusive, posh, and very expensive. We looked into staying there, but it was well out of our pocket. But I'm sure badger/pine marten watching will be cheaper than reindeer walking!

I think the boys and I would probably enjoy Landmark, but dh would loathe it. I think it depends how the weather/the midges treat us, and whether we have much luck seeing the wildlife. If they need cheering up we might head for Landmark at the end of the week.

(After Aviemore we've got a week in a quiet bit of Skye, then a few [even quieter] days on Muck! So I'm sure we can handle some crowds if necessary.)

Thanks for all your help.
