Car or train into central London?

For me, DH and 3 DC's

The train will cost £60 return for all of us.

I usually take the train (and leave DH at home)- but'm wondering if car would be easier/cheaper.(70 mile journey) Is parking in central London really hell? We don't mind taking tube once we've parked.

Depends where you are coming from really - some places on the outskirts have free parking I think - seem to remember that Putney does (round teh common) but am thinking a few years back. I think that the train at £60 would be well worth it - does that include a travel card for tubes and busses?

depends on where you are going. how long for. what you intend to do. how old are your children. etc etc.
carparking will cost. not to mention the congestion charge. but, at least you wont be dragging three lo's on the tubes. if you have a pushchair, then the tubes are a nightmare. but if they are older, at least five imo, they would love the trains and tubes.

DH has decided on the train as he wants a fun afternoon out -lol!

where are you coming from? some stations outside london have relatively cheap parking and reletively low charges, and you go right through the smaller london stations...

oops x posted with you anyway!

we parked on sunday in a car park under hyde park. £12 for four hours I think it was. lots of spaces free. and lots of eye candy cars for dh to drool at (you know, the rollers and the bentleys and aston martins and other sporty types etc.).

not sure it would be as easy during the week though.

it was painless, first time we've done it, we usually drive to reading and get the train in.
