Nice quietish resort with a bit of beach for kids to play on. Dont want brash/noisy/arcades if you know what I mean? Good place to stay at easter - looking for self catering. Any experiences or thoughts gratefully received. I just tried to post another thread and when I went back to it it came up with someone elses peculiar message about sanitary pads (something weird going on with Mumsnet site this morning_ anyway Im only interested in North Devon!!!

If you can't afford N.Devon you might prefer the Vendee region of France... We stayed in a little group of 10 mobile homes with covered decking alongside arranged in a semi-circle right at the quiet end of a bustling campsite. Backed onto pine forests and acreas od sand dunes and sandy beach. Very family friendly and CHEAP!

The site was called le Dornier and the company owning the mobile homes was Vendee Loisirs Vacances

Westward Ho! is retro chic dontcha know?
Appledore is lovely, fishing village, can walk to westward ho and the Burrows at Northam along the beach. But pricey and prolly booked up.
I am looking for a half term deal too and found some at the Bideford Bay holiday park, too ridiculously close to me to be a holiday but might be a break? Bideford is nothing specialbut if you have a car then all of the above are mere minutes away. As are the Hockings vans.....
Most nice cottages and things will be gone I should think but worth a scout round the more inland villages perhaps?

Appledore doesn't have a beach but it is very close to the far end of Northam Burrows which is at the end of Westward Ho! beach.

Have you looked at Ruda? That's meant to be good for little ones.

Appledore does have a tiny weeny beach, down by the life boat station.....

Ersha street is the street to get a cottage

Sorry! I was thinking about a sea-side beach rather than an estuary one. There was some discussion up-thread about Instow being estuary and not so good for bathing.

Personally, I don't mind estuary beaches and a favourite spot of mine is the tiny beach just along from Appledore where the dump used to be.

We went to north Devon this summer and it was great!!

Lynton and Lynmouth are lovely places.

Woollacombe has an amazing beach and its brilliant.

Thankyou everyone again! Just in case --Has anyone been to a 3bed holiday cottage, sleeping 5 (3 adults 2kids + babe) that they would recommend. Doesnt have to be luxurious!

Crodye Farm in Croyde village is lovely. Very old, floors go up and down like the sea, rayburn for damp coats, field with swing, lovely next door neighbours, books, 2 min. walk to bakery etc. Never seen so many spiders indoors though. perhaps they come out of the thatch.

hi

we have stayed at woolacoombe sands holiday park, 60 caravans and 13 bungalows.

it was v nice had alovely view and its family run, the staff are so helpful, any probs they get on to it staight away.

we had a bungalow in sept out of school holidays, my nearly 4 yr old had a great time.

it has a bar and takeaway but they were bit pricey but bungalows well equipped for self catering.

we are going back next year.
