Baby no 3 due in Feb so thinking of a low maintenance holiday next year. Moving back to the UK from Cyprus in 4 weeks so have doen our fair share off beach based living in the past 3 years here.

Thinking of Devon/Cornwall, either renting a cottage or camp site.

Can anyone recommend anywhere lovely with lots to do? Maybe farm based? Children will be 6, 4 and 6 months.

We stay at Wringworthy holiday cottages just outside Looe. Not as pricey as Bosinver and we have found it to be really child friendly. If its not for you, then try some of the websites like cartwheelholidays, awaywiththekids, We also use the tourist board sites when we go away to make sure that wherever we stay isnt horrible or dirty. visitcornwall and visitdevon should be the right ones i think. Have been to Fowey but v expensive and no beach. Take the point about being busy but SE Cornwall is nowhere near as bad as say Newquay area and if you go on the A38 and don't go on the dreaded A30 then the journey is a bit easier. Also check out places where you arrive and leave on a Friday. Good luck now all we need is some sun!!

Bosinver is indeed fab - we've been 4 or 5 times. I can thoroughly recommend it but have been put off booking for next year due to:

Rubbish weather last few years (gets very expensive trying to find indoor things to do after a few days of rain), Cost (we have to go in school hols now as I work in a school) and they seem to be putting their prices up by about 10% every year (in school hols anyway, not sure about other times, but anyway, we just can't manage such increases in this day and age), and also August traffic - Saturdays were HELL, took double the time it would take out of school holiday time from the North West, so this year we went on a Friday. Going down wasn't TOO bad, but coming back was dreadful - about a 9 hour car journey.

So we are off to Majorca next year to avoid those 3 problems, but will seriously miss Bosinver loads. I have been to a few other simijlar places in the SW with the kids, but haven' found anywhere better than Bosinver, with the same relaxed feel with Pat and Dave so so friendly! If you can go out of school holiday time it will be affordable and the traffic would probably be better on a Friday. The weather is always a gamble but we have had some lovely weather there in June when we've been in the past.

ps. re hospitals, there is a major hospital at Truro - half hour drive away from Bosinver if I recall, if the local one in St Austell would be no good for your needs?

Go here if they have a vacancy. They are delightful couple, with really nice kids, know the area really well. The only thing you'll really need to cross your fingers over is the weather and in those yurts, you probably won't have to worry too much about that either. You will have a fab time.

Cuckoo Down Farm. Blackdown Hills. Gorgeous part of the world.
