I have been patting myself on the back for booking our main holiday in the UK and thus missing out on the dodgy exchange rate.

We have booked two lovely cottages, the first is Bosinver and then a week in North Devon in a cottage complex with an indoor pool.

But I'm now seriously worried its going to bucket down all the time and we will have a miserable fortnight. Please tell me its going to be ok, its too late to cancel or we will lose the cost of the cottages and the flights.

Jux, I moved to Cornwall last year and it rained every single day for the first six weeks. I wondered what on earth I had done. It does often cheer up this time of year though, they keep promising a late summer and I believe them. Honest. This has nothing to do with persuading dh to go camping . Honest

AAhh, Jux, so it's your fault!!!

We are in East Devon too, and I thought it kept raining cos I kept putting my washing out!!

Snice, your email is bouncing.

Anyone who wants the word.doc can email my name with 08 on the end at gmail.com and I'll reply. My directions and ideas are based around the Bideford part of N. Devon so let me know if you are staying elsewhere and I'll do my best!

it does rain a lot in devon - that's why it's so green and lush. it's lovely though

Look out for those money off vouchers, there was one called something like Passport to the Lizard which had £5 each off the seal sanctuary. which we didn't even get to this year, found enough else to do! We went to the Minack theatre twice on rainy days followed by glorious evening, fabulous.
(not for tiddly little kids, ours is 9 now). Its always fully booked but if you ring the box office at 9:30 you can get returns sometimes (we did after our first attempt actually was rained off. We had a lovely wet cliff walk at porthcurno instead and saw seals!)

wetsuits make even 18C acceptable beach temp (for me and DD anyhow, DH thinner skinned).Nowt to stop you swimming in the rain, and I was really pleased with myself for thinking of stuffing all the baggage into bin bags so that when we emerged from the sea we had dry towels and clothes.

also Paradise Park near Hayle is great - it has a big indoor play centre as well as lots of birds/small mammals to see and a big outdoor playground.

Snice, I will try again.

I have had a lovely day today walking in the rain with another mumsnetter along Westward Ho! beach. How happy we were as the rain saturated our jeans and soaked our children. Our children were delighted to be fobbed off with bags of 2p's at the amusements as we drank our tea in the greasy-spoon cafe. Devon at it's finest!

Happy days.

Thanks judgenutmeg for the tip sheet and everyone else for the further advice. Will definitely look out for discount vouchers, love a bargain.

Am off camping tomorrow for the weekend so I guess even if it buckets all fortnight long when we head off next week we will still enjoy sleeping in roper beds.
