rear mounted carrier for up to 4 bikes

we used to have one of these on an estate car

We travelled to Scotland from London with 3 bikes on the back at whit half term.

Make sure no part of the bike is touching the car or if it is, that you put a bit of foam on it. My brake bar scraped the paint off the back of the boot. Also make sure your registration plate and lights are visible to traffic behind. DH was stopped by police because one of the bikes was in front of part of the reg plate. A spare reg plate costs about £15 from Halfords and can be tied to the bikes. Also I left the baby seat on my bike and it caused a lot of wind resistance. We took it off for the return journey and it made a difference.

We will be strapping three bikes onto the back of the car and driving 501 miles exactly from London to Scotland in 5 weeks' time.

You take the high road and I'll take the low road.... race ya

Lotoseater - does the pro ride adjust to fit kids bikes? - we are looking at options for our estate.

LotosEater · 03/07/2008 19:58

yes it does - the wheel holders slide along the gutters and can be adjusted to quite small. We fittted a 7 yr olds bike on it

LotosEater · 03/07/2008 20:00

both the roof rack and the back rack can be adjusted for children's bikes BTW

lol had forgotten about this thread and was googling for opinions.

nearly 2 years later we have taken the plunge
tried a strap on one and it put too much pressure on the rear window and rested on the number plate, so it is going back.

very impressed with the 591. very easy to fit and bikes very secure. really excited to be finally taking our bikes with us!!!
