Cottage on Skye - any recommendations?

Three years ago I picked up a cottage recommendation from mumsnet for a place to stay on Mull. It was absolutely fabulous, and just what we wanted, and we've been there twice since.

Glengorm on Mull

So can you come up trumps again for Skye? We do like our home comforts, and don't mind paying a extra for a particularly nice/well-equipped cottage. But we are also keen wildlife-watchers, so a spectacular location would also be fab.

Thank you in anticipation!

PS This is for Summer 2009

Haven't been but saw a small article in Grand Designs magazine about it being built and I thought it looked interesting. We did go to another house (in Spain) which was considered for Grand Designs abroad and it was very nice!

Have you thought about the Isle of Harris?? Blue Reef Cottages are amazing. Expensive though - and only room for a couple.

I should have mentioned size, shouldn't I? There are 4 of us, plus maybe my mum too. So 2-3 bedrooms really.

Dh does particularly want to go to Skye this year.

The Blue Reef Cottages look amazing, but not this time, not with kids!

I can recommend this one : www.cottageguide.co.uk/thewindyhill/

I haven't stayed there myself or been in it but we have the croft house next door at number 3 (though no longer live there) and have spoken to many of the visitors who have stayed there and all have spoken highly of it. It's owned by the Born Free Foundation. It is half a mile up a single track no through road 7 miles north of Portree on the road to Uig. It's perched near the top of a hillside with spectacular uninterrupted views to the Cuillins one way and down to the Western Isles the other. It overlooks a sea loch and the sunsets can be spectacular. Lots of birds of prey can be seen - we had an eagle in the garden once!

Oh I wish!In my dreams I have a house like this...
Have stayed there twice, both times in midwinter. It is incredibly warm and comfortable, with the most stunning views. You can just sit in the big open plan dining/ kitchen and watch look at the the Cullins and the lochs as the weather changes over the day. Very child friendly - the owners must have small children themselves as there is plenty of IKEA bowls and cutlery, toys and books. There are some great beaches and walks very close by, including a ruined castle with amazing views within walking distance.
