Hotel safety questions?

When you stay alone at a hotel, do you put a chair in front of the inside hotel door and do you use an alarm door stopper under the hotel door and do you record audio with your mobile phone under your bed just incase anything, whilst you use your main mobile phone to tell your family and friends where you are ?

My dp knows where I'm staying if I go away on my own as I book through my booking.com account which he also uses. If I'm abroad, I WhatsApp him to let him know that I've arrived at the hostel/hotel but don't always bother if I'm in the UK.

I've never done any of the other things in the example although blocking the door (no idea what an alarm door stopper is - a normal wedge would probably be sufficient) would probably be sensible given some of the Travelodge cases eg giving a key to a male stranger who got into a woman's room and, in another case, giving a key to a woman's domestic abuser.

Using a mobile phone to record audio sounds extremely OTT.

No, none of those.

McSpoot · 16/08/2026 03:50

Nope. I lock and bolt/chain tent door but that is it.

No

I used to work in a hotel, please consider if you wedge the door from inside and there’s an emergency then you could end up potentially trapped. I understand you might be scared as a woman alone but if you have a chain and lock from inside use that.

Important thing to do is avoiding budget hotels, they usually have the least staff and security controls and I often saw door frames with clear signs of forced entry.

If there isn’t a way to lock the door from inside I usually put a chair in front of it so that at least someone can’t open it without waking me up.

This. I personally don't even stay at a Premier Inn on my own.

I use the lock and chain and DP obviously knows where I am.

No, none of those.
I lock the door.
People know where I am staying, and I typically call loved ones for a chat in an evening anyway.

JehovasFitness · 17/08/2026 16:48

Nope. I lock the door. Somebody will know
where I am.

mtobrokeme · 17/08/2026 17:27

Ksown · 17/08/2026 17:31

No

I travel frequently for work and never did anything like that until recently, but after the Travelodge stories I ordered an alarmed door stop.
