Please help me find my perfect campsite in the South West!

I’m looking for a campsite/ glamp site in the south west for my 40th birthday next year and I don’t really know where to start- except driving around noseying at places, which is not very efficient.
I would love any recommendations!

criteria
-bookable for a long weekend in May half term

-within 2 hours ish travel time east of Truro. This means east/south east Cornwall or west Devon, realistically. Or I’m not averse to South Cornwall e.g. the Roseland.

Basically, I live in Cornwall and am very familiar with the north coast from Newquay to St Ives and the south coast around Falmouth, Penzance etc. I want somewhere different. Plus, I’m inviting people for whom coming to Cornwall is already a mission so east is better.

-quiet/secluded/natural. I don’t want a pile ‘em high campsite or one with entertainment.

-pods or yurts available to book for glamping would be desirable but not essential.

-safe for kids to run around

-decent amount of pitches/pods since I’ll be inviting everyone I love to join me if they can (realistically not going to be more than 15 households but quiet campsites tend to be smaller)

I’m not a natural camper, but a few years ago I had a long weekend at Low Wray Bay campsite in the Lakes which was perfect. We had a pod, but others in our party had tents. the pitches are spread out so you can actually sit outside your tent and enjoy the view. The setting is gorgeous and quiet. The kids could run around together outside looking at ducks etc safely - no cars where the pitches are.

I’m looking for a campsite like that nearer to me. All I want for my birthday is to sit with a glass of wine watching my kids play with friends/cousins, eating someone’s homemade brownies, then roll in to bed when the sun goes down. Not bothered about a beach nearby, fine if it is but I live near the sea so equally happy with any other peaceful, beautiful setting e.g woods, meadows, farmland.

i want to be able to book a long weekend for my immediate family, and text everyone the details, saying that we’ll be there for my birthday and they’re welcome to join us. I don’t want any of the stress of trying to co ordinate bookings or take deposits or any of that. Everyone sorts themselves but that’s why I need somewhere with a decent number of pitches if possible.

I know Devon must be teeming with beautiful places but it’s a foreign country to me, so if you know the perfect place I’d be so grateful!

Hi there - we stayed with a group of friends in the barn at this camp site - it was a while ago when the kids were younger but we had a lovely time - https://tregednafarmholidays.co.uk/. The beach at maenporth was lovely and it was not far into Falmouth.

Tregedna Farm and Lodge, camping, touring and group accommodation and weddings.

Tregedna Farm & Tregedna Lodge offers group accommodation and a large and spacious camping and touring site near Maenporth Cove, Falmouth. Tregedna Lodge barn is also available for weddings, parties and celebrations.

Sorry - just realised that Falmouth is probably not on your wish list.

TotHappy · 09/08/2026 23:04

Thank you! It’s not top of my list but Falmouth is beautiful so I will have a look

Stoke Barton campsite at Hartland is simple and lovely but might be too far north for you? North Devon coast, north of Bude.

Ooh no that’s not too far, I’ve actually stayed near Hartland before. Thank you for the recommendation!

Pittaford Farm or South Ford Farm in Devon

Have a look at Great Kellow farm in Polperro. They have glamping and pitches.

As you mentioned the Roseland Peninsula I have to recommend https://treloancoastalholidays.co.uk/ by Porthscatho. Family run and if you phone they can organise your pitches to suit your requirements. Good views of the sea and a short walk to the beach. You can easily walk to the village which has pubs, cafes and a shop and there’s a big field for the kids to play in. No glamping but they do have caravans.

South Penquite Farm is perfect for you, with added fancy chickens! The skies at night are stunning.

It’s not dog friendly though, so if you have dogs they will need to stay behind.

No dogs! Some of these look amazing, thank you all. I love the look of South Penquite and Pittaford Farm.

My sister was going to have her wedding here but then covid happened so it got cancelled. https://hideawaycamping.co.uk/

Lots of space for camping, plus some glamping options (there are more than when we looked around) and it had a kitchen and big BBQs you could use for communal meals etc. It had pigs and other stuff which the kids loved.

camping in okehampton, Glamping in Devon

Beautiful, secluded campsite in Devon on the edge of Dartmoor. With gypsy caravan, shepherds hut, bell tents and pitches with fire pits. Ideally situated to explore Devon's varied attractions. A magical holiday for all ages.
