Restaurant recommendations near Newcastle station

Any recommendations for restaurants in Newcastle city centre? We're staying near the main train station. We tend to like relaxed places, any cuisine but Indian or Japanese, ideally with good cocktails. Also, will Grainger market be open over the weekend?

Thanks!!

Dabbawal on High Bridge.

Thank you

Does it make sense to go to Tyneside for dinner? I've read nice things about Hinnies.

How close to the station do you need to stay because Newcastle is pretty compact

Miso in Ouseburn is good and there's other pubs/bars nearby. It is a nice walk up the quayside to get to Ouseburn

The French Quarter - very close to station

The Broad Chare - a local legend

Khai Khai - this is Indian but really good

Dobson and Parnell - short walk from station

Hinnies is in Whitley Bay - quite a trek from the city centre but never had a bad meal here

Also Grainger market is only open on Saturdays.

Be aware that I think there may be protests planned this weekend in the city centre, not sure which weekend you’re visiting. If there are protests these will be around the Monument right in the City centre.

Ignore my link to ouseburn.co.uk - its not up to date - but if you put ouseburn into insta, you'll find loads of shops/bars. There is a great tour you can book which takes you into a victorian tunnel that was built for coalbuilding but also used as a air raid shelter in the war - I went for my birthday present and loved it!

Grainger market will be open on Saturday but as far as I know its not usually open on Sundays. There will be a Quayside market on Sundays and you could metro over to Tynemouth for the market that covers the metro station and also pop down to the beach

Sushie Me Rolling for Japanese spmeonebhas already mentioned Dabawall, Panis is a quirky Sardinian restaurant and Dobson and Parnell is really nice too. I like the Ouseburn as an area to mooch and have food if you like that kind of thing there's some good cocktail places near the station too Vampire Rabbit and Mother Mercy

So sorry @Gleba I misread your OP and thought you were saying Indian/Japanese were preferred

So, still in Ouseburn I'd recommend Kiln
https://www.kiln.cafe - really lovely
and
https://www.cookhouse.org - one of my favourite restaurants

and Anna Hedworth who runs cookhouse has also got
https://longfriday.co.uk which is in Jesmond and is lush

Blackfriars in the centre is owned by the same owner of Hinnies and also very good

Hinnies is great but not worth the trip.

My favourite is a Spanish restaurant called el torero-get the pork in blue cheese-sounds minging but is excellent. Would also recommend colonel porters nearby for cocktails. Kafeneon is a nice Greek restaurant in the bigg market and does an early special. Hibou blanc is next door, I like the bar called the centurion in the station (it was hidden for years) and the tickets bar nearby for cheapish cocktails. The town wall is a nice pub (food looked good but I haven’t eaten there). It’s next to the 24 hour Greggs for a late night sausage roll! We usually have a drink in Fitzgerald’s and lady Grays but they are not cool.

Khai Khai on the quayside fabulous Indian food. Dood on the Quayside, Persian fusion. Muddler on Grey Street, pan Asian. Blackfriars is lovely and in a historic building. There is loads of choice but I'd advise booking ahead. Stowell Street is Newcastle's China town area, Grey street leads from Monument down to Dean Street which takes you to the Quayside, that stretch is lined with bars and restaurants so you can't go wrong

Thanks!! Off to check the recommendations!

Can recommend all the others! There’s no need to trek to hinnies…

I have booked the Cook House! Looking forward to it already. Thanks again
