Solo Travel at age 50

I am 50 years old, diabetic type two managed with tablets, i live alone, i have a flexible job, i have a personality disorder and i suffer with mild seizures. I want to go on solo travel trips for the next fifty years of my life to travel around where i have family in England. I am already decluttering my home and emptying my home to get ready for my solo travel. I will only have to book my coach ticket because i will be staying with my family. Do you think the age 50 is a good time to travel? 💛

Yep I prefer it! I went to Vietnam solo over Xmas and had a lovely time. I think the only issue is that you may never want to go on holiday with other people again!!

you're 50 not 90, get out there!! What have you been doing for the last 30 years??

I'm 68 with cardiac issues and travel on my own now and then. Good travel insurance, a GHIC and a credit card and good to go. It can be a challenge sometimes no point in making it out to be a doddle, but very rewarding. There's nothing like your own company imv!

Yes it's a perfect age to travel solo. Bluntly, you'll get less unwanted attention from men, and you have enough life experience to cope with small problems like delays. You'll have lots to catch up on with family. Enjoy it!

Go for it. If you are planning to travel around England I cant see you having any issues with healthcare. I order my medication through an online pharmacy called Phlo, they will deliver to different addresses if you ask.

When you say you have a personality disorder how is that managed? Are you on medication, do you need to see a psychiatrist regularly. Do you know yourself if you need to up the support you receive, be it a medication increase. My DM has bipolar and she does not realise when she goes manic. She has started to realize when she stops sleeping 7 hours a night that she is not heading in a good direction.

When you say you have been decluttering your house is that with a view to rent or sell it? I think people generally want 6 months at least to lease or if you live somewhere touristy, even myself living in the Cotswolds I could probably air bnb which would be a shorter notice period if you wished to return.

What about work, can you be fully remote or would they want you to see you every do often?

I think life is for for living so with a bit of caution (medication, house, work) I would absolutely go for it.

I have all of your medical issues, am 59 and have been solo travelling all over the world for the last 20 years! In 6 months I am going to South Africa and hopefully the Far East next year. Honestly embrace the freedom and have fun!

You must have a lot of family scattered around! I would caution against assuming that they will each be willing to put you up every single time you arrive - so it might be wise to gather a store of suitable hotels or Air BnBs in areas you’re planning to visit.

I was going to say it will be even more exciting when you reach 60 and become eligible for a Senior Railcard! But I don’t know if you’ve found there’s better provision for medical help or assistance (if needed) from coach services?
