Nice Cotswold towns for a week that we can stay put in?

Looking at the Cotswolds for a week away end of the summer. Will be myself, DH, DD 18 and pooch.

Wouid like somewhere dog friendly with lots of lovely walks on our doorstep. We visited Matlock at Christmas and loved that we could walk out the footage door and have a different walk every day and not need to drive to the “start”.

We like to abandon the car for the week so options of cafes, restaurants and pubs that we can easily walk to all essential. Bonus would be a nice wine bar or two 😄.
Also a few good take away options and a decent supermarket required too.

Oh and were East Midlands and if we can drive there in under 90 minutes if be a very happy holiday bunny indeed 😁

Gaaaa. App is glitching on me this evening.

Forgot to add I’m a real lazy ass on holiday so ideally we would be looking to eat out for lunch, and then just stick something in the oven for dinner. I hate to have to properly cook when I’m away and once had to make a stir fry which I was most put out by. I’m happy to make toast for breakfast but that’s about as labour intensive as I want things to get 😁

Chipping Camden. Nice shops and cafes for a mooch, and decent walks near by.

We always use Orion agents/bookings. Happy holidays x

Cirencester Is a great base, lots of nice shops, restaurants, pubs and walks

lozzerjam650 · 12/05/2026 20:27

Agree with Cirencester!

We stayed at Kingham Cottages and didn't go far all week. There are two cracking pubs and Daylesford for food shopping. I don't know if it's dog friendly though.

Thanks! What town is this?!

It's Kingham, a village near Stowe on the Wold

BettyRubblecausestrouble · 12/05/2026 20:42

Bradford on Avon!

Mousespoons · 12/05/2026 20:45

we live nearby, I’m not convinced there’s enough to do in the Cotswolds for a week if you’re not planning to drive further afield. Are you national trust members?

bignewprinz · 12/05/2026 20:46

Broadway for full Cotswolds vibe or nearby Winchcombe for glorious walks. Bourton on the Water is also very nice but can get packed.

WildGarden · 12/05/2026 20:52

Another vote for Cirencester. Stow on the Wold is lovely too.

Minchinhampton is quieter but might be worth looking at because it's very pretty and set in the heart of Minchinhampton common with amazing dog walking in all directions. Places to eat in town and you could walk into Nailworth for lunch and do do your shopping from there.

A PP said Bradford on Avon. Lovely walking along the canal and you can get the train from there to Bath in about 20 minutes if you fancy a change of scene.

We stayed near cirencester last week. Lots to do in the area

WhitegreeNcandle · 12/05/2026 21:16

I’ve just got back from a lovely cottage in Woodstock I’d highly recommend. Can get the bus easily to Oxford

And you can get on the heritage railway from Broadway to Winchcombe or vice versa

LeftTheWashingOut · 12/05/2026 21:51

Another vote for Winchcombe, some great walks and pubs there. Not as many shops as some other more obvious Cotswold choices but also therefore not so busy. I’m not sure any one Cotswold town could entertain me for a full week though so I’d probably still want to use the car to venture out a bit

Bradford on Avon!

It’s on the edge of the Cotswolds not in them. I know it well as used to holiday there as a child (before it got posh).
