A nice place in the Peak District with kids for a few days?

Any recommendations? We have one teen and one 5 year old. Plus a dog. Would like somewhere with nice walks but we won’t be doing any difficult hikes with the 5 year old in tow so some family friendly attractions would be good too. Thanks!

Try round Matlock Bath. Nice walks down the Cromford canal near to Bakewell and lovely walks Monday trail, through Chatsworth. Matlock Bath is a bit of seaside town by the river

Can the 5 year old ride a bike? Some nice off road cycling on eg Monsal trail and Tissington trail and I found mine were much better at a decent length cycle than a decent length walk in those days

I was going to suggest Matlock Bath. I live in Matlock, 5 minutes from Matlock Bath, and it’s a nice afternoon out with amusements, a mini golf, pubs, chippies, ice cream shops and parks as well as Gullivers Kingdom. Matlock has some nice shops too. You’re close to Bakewell too, which is nice to walk around. Both very dog friendly (with the exception exception of gullivers)! Both areas have lovely walks, including the Monsal Trail which can be joined at various parts around Bakewell.

Darwin Forest. Close to Matlock and Matlock Bath. It has a pool, soft play, sports pitch and lots of walks.
Matlock Bath is wonderful. Also would recommend the tram museum not too far away.

I’ve had a look at Buxton. Is there much to do for the kids?

@raddishtherabbit they have a huge park with a little train that goes around it. Also Castleton is nearby. Peveril castle and the caverns are a good time. Matlock bath is lovely. Riverside walk and lots of lovely fish and chips 😄

It was a few years ago but form memory there was a really nice park with land train. My kids were quite happy to wander into Buxton, get a Greggs (lol) and wander round.

We did do lots of very local trips too, Bakewell, chatsworth house and a few places I can’t remember name of but little stream to paddle in and woods to explore.

Chatsworth is always lovely and there is a farmyard and adventure playground there for the younger one.

Others have mentioned the various trails - Monsal, Tissington, High Peak - which are good for easy walks and cycling. A number of places on these trails do cycle hire.

You should be able to find walks for all ages and abilities with a little research.

Matlock Bath has already been mentioned, another thing there is the Heights of Abraham. https://www.heightsofabraham.com/

Country park and famous show caverns set in 60 acres of woodland and reached by cable car over the river Derwent in the Peak District. Make memories and enjoy a great family day out in Derbyshire.
