Interesting places around Birmingham that are easy to drive into.

I'm looking for somewhere to stay for 1-3 nights in September that's either interesting in it's own right, or has easy public transport into Birmingham.
It's part of a longer trip-Glasgow to Bristol and back, and I hate driving in big cities.
Just me, no kids, limited budget, enjoy museums, interesting towns, local food.

Majors in Bilston for your orange chips.

Lichfield is gorgeous. Has a decently priced Premier Inn too in the centre.

Get the tram to brum from Wolverhampton. Nice trip drops you in the centre. If you take it to broad street you can see black sabbath bridge the rep theatre the library and walk through to the museum and council house and see the floozy in the jacuzzi then walk down new street to the bull ring.

And definitely get orange chips. Amazing. And a curry.
