Narrow boat holiday

We (DH, DS6 and I) will be traveling back to England for a few weeks this Summer, this is quite a big event since we do not get back very much and we want to have some quality time with extended family, whilst also exposing DS to some "British" things eg the canal system which he saw in Peppa Pig. GPs are quite keen campervaners and were thinking of getting a boat themselves a few years ago.
So the idea is to hire a boat and spend a week or so pottering about the waterways RV'ing with GP's at suitable locations along the way - canal side pubs with campsites, interesting towns etc.

I would welcome any suggestions or advice, general or specific whether an area of the country or a must see mooring. Also good or bad experiences from rental companies and general anecdotes

Also. My feeling is that you would need an adult to supervise the 6 year old plus at least two further adults /competent teens to manage the boat.

My kids loved our canal boat holiday, certainly doable with 4 adults and one 6 year old. Look up the Falkirk Wheel, I haven't been on it but want to.

We did one with Skipton Boat Trips a few years ago. Very enjoyable but you’ll need more than one adult one child to drive the boat along the locks! So make sure you’re all fit and able to assist. It’s hard work, especially when it rains.

That's an interesting thread and food for thought, my family are based in Yorkshire so would probably not go on K&A, maybe L&L or perhaps West Midlands (I was at Uni in Birmingham so some memories around there).
