Any top tips for somewhere to go for two or three nights next week. It will be two adults, one recovering from an op so no or little walking (for one of them). The weather is rubbish, just want nice food, relaxation, a king size bed, good service, coffee and cake out in nice surroundings north east, north west, Scotland etc. Budget £200 a night for two b & b. Not averse to a spa break or nice hotel or country inn as long as it’s clean no pets. Thanks

Hotel Victoria in Robin Hood’s Bay has excellent room service. You can order breakfast in bed or cocktails on your balcony. Several rooms have sea views and there are plenty of nice places to potter around nearby.

Thank you the room service and cocktails sounds lovely and only visited Robin Hoods Bay twice for a day trip many years ago and distinctly remember a very steep hill there which could be problematic (at the minute).

The Lake District . Not an obvious choice for a non-walking holiday, but simply driving from A to B is beautiful. You can go on steam train rides, boat trips etc, non of which involves walking, or just sit in a nice cafe and admire the scenery. Aim to visit a different lake each day.

We stayed at these lodges. Each had a hot tub.

A nice trip is a ride is a ride on Ravenglass railway, and a visit to Muncaster castle. It’s not a huge castle to walk around, but has spectacular views.

Not sure if it’s in budget but you could try somewhere like Losehill in the Peak District if you’re prepared to stay on site or drive off rather than walk, or you could see if anywhere fits the bill in Castleton - the village itself is flat.

Robin Hoods Bay is far too steep for what you need, as is Whitby.

Thank you @Silverbirchleaf those lodges look lovely but really fancied a hotel
stay as want a break from meal planning, cooking and tidying the kitchen.

That hotel looks lovely @MyCatPrefersPeaches I don’t know the Peak District at all so will look into that.

I think DH wants more of a pub/coaching inn but I want somewhere where you feel comfortable and relaxed but that also feels clean without the umpteen wet dog and dingy ancient pub vibe/with stodgy pub grub offerings.

I totally get the not wanting to cook, clean etc vibe for a weekend away!

Anymore for anymore nice hotels please that don’t cost an arm or a leg.

We have previously enjoyed holiday cottages and day trips in Northumberland various places, the lake district various places, Beverley, Helmsley and Harrogate. We were less keen on Pickering and Skipton. But would really like a nice hotel this time for a treat. In either one of those places or somewhere different.

How about Chester - lots to do and it's flat! Beautiful surrounding countryside too.

This is on the outskirts - Crabwell Manor

This is in the city centre - Leonardo Hotel
(links didn't work so just names - both come in under £200)

Thanks anymore recommendations please?

Netherby Hall just north of Carlisle on the Scottish border. It’s self catering but there are places nearby to eat and they can take you to the jointly owned Pentonbridge Inn for Michelin star dining experience.

Fischers Baslow Hall in Peak District, superb cosy hotel, fabulous food, Chatsworth next door for a wander round.

Pistachiomonster · 04/04/2026 13:40

Thanks might look at Baslow as really wanted a hotel. Have stayed in a nice lodge not far from Penton Bridge before and whilst it was nice not really not much to see or do nearby and at the moment with one of us not being able to walk far it wouldn’t be ideal.

White bear in masham. Ground floor rooms with walk in showers available. £200 per night B&B. Fantastic food. Masham village is a few minutes walk away. Too be honest we go there to totally relax and rarely leave the hotel. Beautiful garden if weather is kind. Lovely residents area if not. Lots to see around and about if you are able.
