We (2 adults and 2 boys aged 12 and 10) are thinking of heading over to sea houses area next week for a mid week stay. Don't think the forecast is looking great. I know 'there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing' but wondering whether we should plan for the summer months instead. Never been over that way and would like to see Lindisfarne, beadnell bay, bamburgh castle and Alnwick.
Thoughts or tips greatly appreciated.

The gardens at Alnwick are heaven in the summer.

For that part of the trip, I think you would enjoy it a lot more then.

The beach at Bamburgh is beautiful!!!

We went in February and absolutely loved it. We loved Warkworth, Amble, Craster, Alnwick, Alnmouth - the castles, sunsets, sensational beaches, friendly people, lovely food. GO!

DH is from North Northumberland and I have visited it many. many times. I have compiled a list of places to visit and things to do. The weather on the north east coast can be bracing at this time of year, but if you want some recommendations I can post them on here.

@RampantIvy We are staying near Alnwick for 5 days in July - more than enough to see and do! Wish I was going for longer!

LIZS · 31/03/2026 08:39

Boat trip to Farne islands. You can walk along the beach between Bamburgh and Seahouses and take a bus back.

Flossi24 · 31/03/2026 08:42

Ohh. Fab. Thanks.

Barter Books in Alnwick is always worth a visit! Even if you’re not into books, the cafe is excellent.

If you are foodie, there are a couple of Rick Stein Heroes around - Swallowfishin Seahouses, who have an onsite smokery. Even if you don’t like fish, just get a pot of their smoked sea salt. Also, a butcher’s across the road from Bamburgh Castle. I forget their name, but my family rave about their pies and sausage rolls (I don’t eat meat).

Check the tide times for Holy Island, you may not be able to get across or may get stuck there.

if the weather is truly awful drive to Alnmouth or North Berwick and jump on the train to Newcastle or Edinburgh for a day.

What a fantastic list. The NE is so stunning if you wrap up well you can visit a different big beautiful beach every day.
