London adults only

Two adults, been to London many times but in the past 15 years only with kids. We will arrive late morning on Monday and leave late afternoon on Wednesday. We have a Tower of London tour on the Tues evening, and will visit Buckingham palace on Wed morning for the changing of the guard, and apart from that the world's our oyster.....

Any fun, slightly different ideas? We have never made it on the Emirates cable car so maybe that? We can walk miles. Also need to factor in nice food, ideally not expensive (ie under £40 pp) and some type of foreign cuisine we can't get at home (which is most.)

The Soane museum is a 'small'.museum in Lincoln's Inn Fields on my 'must see' list. Nice quiet area for a wander too.

Bloomsbury could be good, there may be a walking tour there. Hare and Tortoise restaurant, Renoir cinema, both Brunswick Square.

Ripper Tour
Krays Tour
London Ghost Walk

Good to see some bits of London you maybe wouldn;t want to wander round alone at night , and interesting history .

I’ve also done the Ripper tour, many years ago… I think it was good although I mainly remember being cold having misjudged the amount of clothes I needed.

If heading East, I'd also recommend Dennis Severs House. From memory you need to book and its a guided tour. https://www.dennissevershouse.co.uk/
You could get out at Liverpool st station and there are the nearby Spitalfields markets.

From Dennis severs, walk through Bricklane then up to Columbia road. From there its not too far to this quirky bar/museum. Upstairs is a bar which also serve absinthe. Down stairs is a mini museum of curiosities!

London Fields and the canal isn't far for a wander, but you could also just get on the overground at Cambridge heath from there- depending where you are staying?

I like the walks from Limehouse Basin up to Victoria Park and The Line from Olympic Park. Lots of places to eat round shopping centre by Olympic Park. The end of the Line trail gets bit messy, it does eventually link up with cable car and finish at O2. I like the cable car - looking at Thames Barrier and old docks from the air 🤓

If you are in Spitalfields or Brick Lane I recommend Merkamo - vegan Ethiopian food. A 'large special' from the food truck in market is just over £10 and is delicious and very filling 😀

These are amazing!!!! Depends when you’re going what they’ve got on but I did the gin safari and it was sooo much fun plus you got loads of London history and a real ‘off the beaten track’ vibe

War of the world’s experience. Something bonkers and such fun.
Mr Foggs for cocktails
followed by the Book of Mormon.
A day to remember.

SockPlant · 25/03/2026 09:59

jumping in here for a rec request because i'm going to london soon too (as a tourist for the first time)
I understand there is a tour of the Thames Barrier? has anyone done it? is it any good?

gerispringer · 25/03/2026 10:03

The boat trip to Thames Barrier is good especially when you get a good commentator as they point out all the buildings telling you about tge history etc

Nosejobnelly · 25/03/2026 10:09

The museum of the home near old street. Used to be called the Geofffry museum.

I would always recommend the open top bus tour which includes a boat back along the Thames from the Tower of London to Houses of Parliament. I'm a London native, but I learned so much from doing this tour when we had Spanish visitors over. Showed me what a beautiful city London really is.
