Best seating arrangements when flying abroad with two young children?

Hi all, I am looking to book a holiday abroad with my partner and our 2 sons, aged 2 and 8 years old. Those that are also a family of 4 when it comes to flying what do you do with the seating arrangements? Do you all sit in the same row ie 3 in the right side of the plane and 1 on the left side closest to the airle or do you sit 2 on, let's say row 22 and 2 on row 21 so kids can see out the window ?

Kids in economy, adults in first. Children are smaller.

We do 3+1 and DH sits with the kids because I fall asleep on planes almost immediately 😅

At that age though I would do 2+2. When dd1 was 2yo she had a massive tantrum about sitting in her own seat for landing and if the 8yo suddenly decides they are nervous too it would be a nightmare.

We do 3 on one side and 1 parent on the other side. The aisle is narrow so the single seat parent can still assist the child on the aisle side and get bags from lockers etc.

We also do 3+1 and the adults swap occasionally. As others said the 8 year old should be quite self sufficient.

This is what we do. DC are 5 and 2.

Well, after speaking to my partner, she is adamant that we sit 2 in 1 row and 2 behind or in front of that row, so both boys have window seats. I personally think it's best if we both sit in aisle seats and the boys sit in the middle and window seat then on the way back they swap around.

Agree with this. One can have the window seat going out and the other going back.
my kids just look at their screens anyway, rarely out of the window 🤣
having no aisle seat is a pain when you need to get stuff or take a child to
bathroom.

3+1 is easier with eldest child at the window younger child in middle and parents can swop
